This subject comes up every so often, it loooksgreat on paper, the idea is you don't have to worry about jacket variation, loose cores, and many of the other tghings that are SUPPOSED to plague the bullets we currenty use.
But, look how precision a bullet that comes out of a custom die is. We are talking about tolerances that even the finest in CNC equipment cannot duplicate on a regular run. And, the die will make literally millions of them, each being an exact duplicate of the other.
There is also the problem of the hardness, and the bullets ability to conform to the lands and grooves. This is very consistant with a copper-jacket-lead core bullet.
Also, in order to get enough weight, the machined bullets would have to be made quite a bit longer. This requires more twist, which creates a bunch of problems in it's own right.
There are CNC bullets being made forsome specialty applications. But for what we do, it would be so impracticle as to be ridiculous. I look at it this way. If lead core-copperjacketbullets had not been invented yet, and we weremaking bullets with CNC machinery, someone would say, "You know,if we took a precision copper jacket, and swaged a lead core into it, and then...
