was re-contoured. If it opened up the bore it didn't affect the performance any. If you have read any of Bill Calfee's articles he mentions that he turns the barrels he fits down to I think a straight .700. He sez they tune easier tha way.
There's no problem turning down a barrel though a steady rest and/or a follower rest would be a big advantage.The problem is any inherent stress in the barrel.One barrel might stay straight while the next one might bow or the I.D. might open up.I know the better barrel makers stress relieve the barrels before and after machining and the lapping
is always done last.
My Gene Davis 40X has a reverse taper Benchmark barrel that has been turned down from .930 at the muzzle to .750 at the receiver end and if it has affected the accuracy of the barrel, I certainly cannot tell it.. The rifle shoots awesome...
