Tuner?

Nobody said we wanted to, just that the tuner could not be relied upon to do so, if properly tested as I have described above. And it can't which is basic proof of tuner theory. Unfortunately, the spam tree fell and the dogs are under it, but I think the fire department will be able to rescue them by nightfall. I was able to salvage the spam from the extreme southwest corner of the tree. Think about why spam grows better at the southwest corner and you will have many answers. I mixed that with the eggs. I know some of you people won't like it, but I like my eggs just a little runny with pepper and the spam for flavor. Man, that's some good eatin'. Anyway, I just had a call from a gentleman who lives above the Artic Circle. He used my tuning method testing as I have described here and beleives he can beat all comers in his area. I hope everyone now understands the basics. It will all be in my book, but most of the crux of the thing has been described above. Please feel free to use my testing and tuning methods. I'll also be glad to autograph books for you. Anybody have a recipe for possum stew?

Beau, I'm pretty sure if someone posts a recipe for possum stew this thread is headed for "General Discussion".

Well, maybe. But it is a distraction when everybody else is posting too. Derails my train of thought. But this thread is important to discovering the potential of tuners.

Wow, I see the light!....

I got it! Beau says a tuner cannot be relied on to make bad ammo shoot worse. Others say tuners cannot make bad ammo shoot well. So if you consider both statements then you have to assume tuners cannot have much effect at all on how bad ammo shoots. I now understand.

possum stew

possum stew - One flat possum with goodyear tire tracks on back only (goodyears are best, unless your racing nascar). Pinch of salt, pinch of pepper, Boil possum in water for 30 min. Drain...salt again...add favorite BBQ sauce. Chew

Skinning possum first is optional

Now that's the best info on this post yet.....

Ok here is one for all the experts to chew on while waiting for the Possum Stew Recipe:

If asked the question "Will a Tuner make my rifle shoot Good Ammo Better?"

Answer: "NOPE!"

But now if asked "Can a Tuner help my rifle shoot Good Ammo better?"

Answer: "Probably!"

Why is it that tuner topics always turn in to this kind of mindlessness?

Is it because tuners are all hype and no substance?

Or is it because those who have working tuners are scared of competition that could come from sharing that knowledge?

I think it is a damn shame that when someone asks a question about something, that his thread gets hijacked with this kind of garbage...

And Beau.. you really added a lot of your knowledge and expertise to help answer the man's question...

Rock, you've hit the nail on the head. Think about it and you will have the answer. I may add a subtitle "Tuner Theory - Who Dares Go to The Line Without One Whether You Understand it or Not."

Dave,

The thread was dead anyway. There is little that can be said about tuners that's not already out there. The immediate answer should have been do a search for "Tuners". End of thread.

Beau, Beau, please leave the guy alone he's having enough trouble already.
Cec, nice posts, glad to see you making new friends. At this rate we should have your picture up here with a red circle and line through it.:D
Also for those of you that wish to communicate directly with Cecil instead of confusing these otherwise straight foreward BENCHREST threads, you get get him direct at the regional offices of the flat earth society at cecil@i don't get it.com.
I'm sorry Wilbur but this is just too much fun.

Book

Well, I just came in and turned my machine on and I'm somewhat overwhelmed at the response towards my long-awaited book, "Tuner Theory." So, I've decided to reveal the basic ideas in this and next few posts. But right now, I have a problem because the storm blew over the spam tree and it's about to hit my doghouse. So, I need to get that taken care of first, but on to tuners, some people call them a muzzle device. My keyboard on my machine appears to be overheating and I guess I need some coolant, and I'm pretty sure I've not watered my bore today. Better go, it's almost lunch time. I hope you're beginning to understand the basics here but more on that later. I think I'll go fry an egg....

I read a book one time that had a lot of the same information. Can't remember where but it might have been at an airport, said something about runways.

Nice thing about tuners they take out the errors caused by Density Altitude changes.

Should I assume the DA discussions here end up following the same path as the tuner discussions?

They happen to be the two topics that seem to interest me the most at the moment.

Actually they may have a closer relationship than some think. We recently learned that water in the bore affects the tune and I suspect density altitude has some effect on the amount of water in the bore. Engineering was never this hard.
I made and sold tuners about 14 years ago. I wonder when they were invented.
Don

Well, sorta, but everybody seems to agree on the basics of how a tuner should work. DA is a little different. In the same thread you can get many enthusiastic testimonies of how the knowledge of DA helps promote accuracy. Problem is the testifiers are often doing, and claiming, the exact oposite of one another. Whatever works, works.
