Tucker on a Weaver
Cecil is a good friend, and I guess he does do his conversions on a Weaver.
But, the Weaver already has two substantial leaf springs opposite each turret. They are pretty stiff.
The problem with Weavers is not the spring tension. The main problem lies in the way the erector tube pivot mounts. It is in a ball and socket 'gimble' joint that is pre-set at the Factory. The problem is that the registering sufaces are rather small in cross section, and over a period of time, the joint does get looser. There is nothing that can be done about this.
If you purchace a used Weaver, try to ask if it was ever on a Rifle with any apprecible recoil, which will loosen the ball joint even faster.
Also, the turrets are seated on rubber gaskets. Over a period of time, these take a "set', and the turrets will actually become loose. I have seen quite a few with this very problem............jackie
