Totally non benchrest gun pics but still kinda neat.

Silhouette pistol I built a few years back for Mr. Steve Ware, a writer out in Oregonz.

Kind of a novelty piece for this sort of thing, but what the hell right?

Anyways, here's a few pics.

Enjoy.

Having competed against the gun/shooter I can tell you it performs as well as it looks.

Filling in Some Gaps

Doug was kind enough to share this thread with me; so, I registered & will fill in some gaps.

Yes, Chad did make the stock.

The pistol is chambered in 6.5 BR with Lapua 6 BR brass as the parent case. Dave Kiff's folks at Pacific Tool & Gauge made the reamer. The barrel is a fast twist Lilja made for 140 grain VLD's, and the trigger was made by Mike Dewey and is set at 4 ounces. The scope is a Leupold 2.5x8.

The guts of the rear sight are Bo-Mar, and the front globe was made by now deceased (& sorely missed) Ralph Bond Chad is responsible for the front & rear sight bases.

The concept of the pistol was to build a gun that could compete in six silhouette events - Big Bore, Half-Scale & 500 Meter Unlimited & Unlimited Any Sight.

Load testing is finished. I used Sierra 142, JKL 140, and Berger 140 grain VLD bullets, Remington 7 1/2, Federal 205M, and RWS Small Rifle (the RWS are no longer available in the US & did not perform well at all). Powders used were VuitaVuori N-130 & 140.

Test results showed no appreciable difference in accuracy except with the RWS primers. (Boy, was I glad since you can't buy them here anymore!)

I settled on N-130 for the powder due to the fact that I was using less; thus, an 8 pounder will last longer and the Sierra bullet as it is somewhat less expensive than JLK's & Berger's.

I have attached a sample group from load testing. It was fired at 200 meters from the Creedmoor position.

Steve,

While flattered I'm also humbled a bit.

Your shooting better groups with a pistol at 200 then I usually do with a rifle!:D

Bullet Seating Die

Another point that should be made here is that I purchased & sent to Nesika a Redding 270 competition bullet seating die. Chad modified it for the 6.5BR chambering since he had the reamer. Bullet run out is only .001".
