Too Little Headspace?

I was trying to let Phil no that you need to let things fly on a complete rifle. In his post he said the extractor and everything else was all put together. In that configuration if he just slides the bolt closed chances are it won't close on his go gage.If he lets it fly it will probaly close without issue. He can then try his no go gage in the same manner and prove to himself all is right.
He bought all of the pieces from a reputable source so I doubt anything is out of whack.
If he is the Phil I think he is we are shooting a 1,000 yard match on the 4th sunday of september at the sacramento club.If he comes out he can shoot my heavygun while I'll dial in the tuner settings in preparation for the big match in october.Should be able to shoot 1 amazingly small group out of the 3 targets.

Lynn,

You are right that with the extractor and ejector all in in place, it is impossible to "push" the bolt close. I was reluctant to let it slam shut on the gauge, so removed the ejector and extractor, which permitted to more easily push it closed. I suspect it would close if I let the bolt slam, but given the cautions about damaging the gauge, I did not do that.

I am the "Phil" you are thinking about and I appreciate the invite. I am checking my schedule on coming on out. What time in the morning?

I am going to post another message on my thoughts on what I will be doing with benchrest, after having sampled it with you last year.

I tried gently closing a Browning BAR because I didn't want to spook a big buck and found out quickly you can't gently close a fully functioning semi-auto.

We shoot this sunday 9-27-09 and will go hopt at 8:00 AM so if you show up be there about 7:45 AM.
I am wanting to record the tuner settings on my heavygun at 1,000 yards and I don't think two of the three groups will be very good but one should be very nice.It would give you an opportunity to run 30-45 rounds downrange with a coach standing behind you.

P.S. Remember not to use your GPS or you'll go down that dirt road.

OK. 7:45 am means leaving here at a godawful hour, but you have a longer drive, so who am I to complain. Yes, my GPS did take me down that dirt road the first time, but thankfully, I turned back and called for directions. I know how to get there now.

Will advise soon if schedule permits to make the trip, but right now, looking like a go.
