Tom Libby wins South West regional, CONGRATES Tom. Tom's shooting has been very impressive this season in the southwest and is someone to watch. He's doing something right.

Tom has been shooting consistently well this entire season. An especially fine accomplishment considering the fact that he has me distracting him with countless newbie questions. His ability to focus and concentrate (with me loading next to him) is amazing - i.e. "Tom, do I put the primer or powder in first?".

Way to go Messrs. Libby :D

Give us some hints as to what Tom's basic Combination is. Many shooters are VERY interested in what actually works out there in Competition.........jackie

Tom's secrets= Purchased Skip Ottos railgun, hangs out with Lou Murdica, and married a woman smart enough to keep his antics in perspective.......................Don

Tom,
Sorry we didn't get to give you the clap at the match. :D ---Bill

Jackie,
I think you are asking about my set up etc. Lew does not know it but when he leaves for a shoot I have found a way to transport (beam me up Scotty) his tunnel to the range under a cloaking device and set it up to shoot through for the match.

I have a Bat wood rifle with a two lug Bat action and a Kelbly trigger and a March 40x scope. The barrels I have are Shilen and Hart, the barrel I shot for the heavy was a hart with Bat chambering all the barrels for me with my reamer. I shot Bishop .790 7dd in the heavy and Bishop .825 8s in the rail gun and changed to the Don Spencer’s Ugly’s in the rail. (Sorry Bart you didn’t send the new ones to me) (Also Skip Otto talks to me when I shoot his rail) I use pulled 8208 (the lot means nothing as you have to check the one you have to see what works) In my case I have a Bruno powder measure set a 52 ½ clicks (not sure 29.4 +-) Front rest is form JJ Industries and the rear bag is a Edgewood. (COST a BUNCH)

The most important thing I have is (CAROLYN * PRICELESS) to let me know which voice in my head to lessen to before I go to the line to shoot.
She maybe the only one that can even come close to really know who I am.

Jackie, I hope this answers your question.

Southwest regionals

While Tom Libby is my friend and I'm glad of his accomplishments with winning the Southwest Regional 4 gun I'm a little disappointed in the rest of the story.
My wife, Susan Blazzard, has been a competitor for many years. She is not unknown in the Southwest region.
This year at the regionals she won the 2 gun, the 3 gun and except for her rail base peg falling in a hole and shifting here point of impact half way through her group at 200 may very well of picked up the 4 gun.
She won the Arizona State championship earlier in the year.
I'm her husband and have been a little shy in writing her praises but it's starting to look like no one else is going to mention her accomplishments.

I wonder why we don't have more women shooters?

Tom

I guess that is what you call taking a trip around the equipment list. Two different brands of barrels, and three different bullets. Heck, I can barely keep up with one of each.
But what works, is what works.
I have 40 pounds of 8208 that I have never cracked a lid on. It has 169 as the last three numbers on the lot. One of these days I am going to tryt it. Probably at Phoenix.
I don't know about having old Skip "haunt" you at the bench. As we all know, Skip had a rather unique way of telling shooters, (his friends), that they probably should have considered bowling as a hobby.
Does he ever say to you, "new brass would cure that".........jackie

New brass and MORE powder was Skip's favorite bit of wisdom.
I was walking by his loading table one day at Visalia and Skip was in deep thought scutinizing a piece of brass. When I asked what he was up to he replied "Trying to figure out how to get more powder in" That was typical Skip
