To weigh or rim gage ammo, Calfee

Bill asked me to post this. When he gets a break he said he'll continue the story about how Selby won that Championship. Bill also said he knows that at least six of those shooters have left us, including the first three place finishers, along with Steve Hamilton, Bob Denton and Warren McFarland. Does anybody know about the rest?

mr. calfee,
there are a few here that poo poo you, but i'm listening. keep writting. you have years of wisdom that we could learn from. thank you.

baiting

some guppies will bite even if you don't put bait on the hook. I found out years ago that you can get some results out of weighing and guageing ammo.
Although it isn't for everyone it sometimes works for others.
Mr. Bill has been around along time and knows losts of stuff about 22's. If you had a Calfee 22 xp conversion back in the 80's no one could touch you.
Anyway he sure knows how to fish for guppies.

lew massie

lew massie and i shot together for years and were good shooting buddies. he had a favorite saying-if you don't trust your gun, put it in the truck and go home! lew retired maybe ten years ago, moved to florida and lived the good life. he passed away 3 or 4 years ago. he was a good shooter and a great guy............fred

As my Dad told me once........................................

A man that keeps people thinking is always good to have around, because he is thinking himself!! Keep our minds working Bill!!

My dear friends:

My dear friends:

Before I proceed.......Lew Massie...I did not know he'd passed.....

Oh my dear friends....damn, am I that old? Yes I am! Lew Massie, man, that guy could shoot......he showed us rimfire benchresters, (he believed in short barrels), that he could beat the best that old Bill Calfee had, and he did it, several times....

Man.......man.........Lew, thanks for the time I got to spend with you....

Man, I feel old my friends....

I want to tell you about Selby......look at the scores of the 92 Nationals...

How can one guy, beat the entire field by 341 points per target, in a National Championship match!

Because he out worked, and out shot everyone.....

When I get a break, we'll discuss why Selby blew the field away in 92..

Friend Lew Massie......you and Selby are looking down on us......Guys, don't be too hard on the "BIG MAN"......HE'S got a lot on his mind.......Selby, and Lew: would you guys do me a favor? Tell the "BIG Man", Our GOD, that he needs to be shooting Eley, Lot 4237, Red Box.......He'll understand...

Damn, Selby, Damn..... you did good man..............

Your friend, BillCalfee

Bill:

I'm pretty sure that Jim Bell (#7) passed away a few years ago. Chris Dolan (#17) dropped from sight right after Larry Brown switched BR-50 from rimfire to airguns. I have not heard anything about him since. Glen Townley is still shooting (finished 10th. in this years ARA Nationals.) Ray Brown finished 58th. in this years ARA Nationals. Don't know what happened to Brenda Greiner.

Hey Bill, I'm still hanging around. Been shooting RBA and some IR-50/50, but I'm going to try and get back into ARA this year, maybe shoot a couple of tournaments and some club matches.

Hang in there old friend. It's been a long time since I last saw you, but maybe I'll see you this year..

Your Friend.

Not Sure

I'm not sure whether this is about who's passed on, shot BR50 or won a Nationals Tournament with a Winchester 52D. Our good friend Mike Studebaker's name should be on that list.

Jim Bell

Thanks for the info......

First time I ever shot with Jim Bell, I believe it was at Ben Peters place near Lynn Missouri, he knew I had a bum left leg and offered to set my flags for me............what's that about complaining about not having no shoes, then meeting a man with no feet........Jim Bell was missing an entire leg.....is there any folks like that left? Jim was a great shooter, and a great guy......

Course Larry Brown, inventor of BR-50 is gone......Larry was at that Nationals...

My friends, I just turned my machine on before I head for the range....it was windy last evening so testing was canceled......it's dead calm and almost 60 degrees so I got to make hay while the sun is shinning...

I will tell the rest of Selby's story as soon as I have some time....looking back I now regret that the story wasn't told while he was alive......

Chris Dolan (#17) dropped from sight right after Larry Brown switched BR-50 from rimfire to airguns. I have not heard anything about him since.

I thought Chris Dolan dropped out of sight sometime before the switch. After the "incident" I never saw or heard from him again. And he used to travel quite a bit.

You got me! What was the "incident". We gotta have something when it's too cold to shoot!

Too cold.....ya better take up groundhog hunting :D (e.g. Punxsultawney Phil) if you want to shoot in February next year....or move to Florida like I did. Used to bow hunt up your way around 1960

Regis
p.s. so now, we've gone from qualifying ammo to remembering old friends to "incedents" to bow hunting in one thread. ....Must be some kind of record ??

The Incident

You will get caught? It's one on the reasons we're not to touch our target after we post it on the target frame/backer.

Thats not even bending the rules, that is flat cheating....I heard a story in centerfire group shooting of someone taking thier target back to the truck and putting it between two pieces of plate metal and mashing the target to get a smaller group. That also led to not hadling your own targets.

My friends:

Just came from the range....

Man, I started this thread to tell the story of Selby Wright, and how he simply blew the field away at the 1992 BR-50 Nationals...

But man, every time I start a thread on this awesome forum of Wilburs, it turns into thousands, and thousands of "VIEWS"

I'm going to start a new thread, when I get a break, and finish telling the story of Selby's awesome performance at the 92' BR-50 Nationals...

Man.................I hate these big, nasty threads.....
