The "Wild Side"

Welll, I took a walk on the wild side yesterday. I shot in my first Group Match. It was an HV match and I shot my 30BR "Score Rifle in it. It was fun, not terribly cold and conditions were decent. I must admit, I liked it. :D

I had a BIG day

I won the Warmup with a .160 ! If I figured my agg right just now it was .2636. We were in a hurry to get home because we were in the middle of a big Noreaster so I didn't get an official results sheet. Got back to Bunks @ 12:30 AM ! It was quite an adventure getting home. We somehow got into the campus of the University of New Hampshire trying to get around stopped traffic on the route we were trying to use and didn't think we were ever gonna get out of it. It a Maze!

One can only hope!

We got 16" here where I live and I faced shoveling that when I returned. Shoulda stayed in Florida when I was there!

Not having done it

I think I shot for two years before I got an agg that far down in the twos!

Rod

I didn't know what to expect. I am not use to looking through a 45X scope so I thought my groups were enormous and was amazed how much they shrunk!

One of them: I had a smallish hole with 4 and held down into what appeared to be a condition that looked like it needed to be held into and the damn bullet went right where I held it! In another, I got mixed up with how many record shots I had run off so I shot an extrey. That, of course was # 6 and made the hole bigger! Can't fix Stupid!

I think it was one of those days where Wake Turbulance was the biggest condition on the field. I also noticed that one of my bullets went left when someone on my right doubled with me and not real close to me either!

I went preloaded and I think the load I had was a tad light. I was getting some verticle. I seated bullets long and found a seating depth in the Warmup that made a pretty good hole and went with it. I would have liked to been able to take the verticle out of it though. Probably would have been fine in a bit warmer weather. I ended up on the seating depth that barrel seems to like.

I think I agree

How many times have I told you group is easier, Pete?
Nice shooting under harrowing conditions.
I see the nor'east got hammered.

I don't think there were 20 Xes in that mess. Got about 16" here; had it waiting for me this PM .

I am in

What part of Maine are you located

Ellsworth, the Gateway to Bar Harbor. it takes me longer to get out of maine than it takes for the remainder of the trip; usually. I am around 100 miles from Canada on the coast. Nobody in the right mind would try to do Benchrest from here!

Maine

It may be cold and snow-e but you have some of the beautiful areas up there.
During summer and fall that is..... Hope for the Mrs and I to get up that way someday. The furthest North East we have been is to Conn.(Hartford,Mystic,Danbury area)
Hope your snow blower was working

We are going to try to host the Score Nationals. If we are able to do it we will have it during the nice part of Summer so that it will be worth the trip. We will also have a Lobster Bake if we can find a caterer to do it, IF we host the Nationals.

another club that has not hosted the Nationals has bid on it so we are going to back up to 2011. Sorry for the mi-information. It will give us more time to prepare ;)

an honest 24 inches of new snow in Aurora. Not sure where I'm going to put it all. Road in is one vehicle wide in spots. Least it wasn't the heavy, wet stuff you got on the coast.

I would doubt it Al

Think 'four days'. ;) :) -Al

Too many traditionalists over here and we can't afford the extrey days in a motel and away from the farm.

It is said that one of the clubs in Maine use to run it's matches sort of like you guys do and the Match Director was taken to the "Woodshed" for it. Interesting how times change, isn't it?

I am not opposed to change however, most of the people I know don't like Marathon events. I have heard several people say they likes the one day Score events VS the Group weekends because it was ONLY one day for regular matches and 2 days for Championships.

You folks have a different situation and we understand that. I think it boild down to Regional Differences. Probably it is a good thing to be able to practice the differences.

Al,
The future of Four Day Score Nationals depends a lot on how the shoot in Iowa goes this year. You were not in attendance at the Winter meeting and the minutes have not yet been published, so you may not be aware that the deviation from the Normal 2 day Score Nationals format was granted as a one time special exemption to the rules because Webster City requested it. The IBS executive board had quite a debate about the the pro's and con's of letting this be tried and it is strictly on a trial basis. Personally I hope it is a smashing success, and generates a rebirth of interest in Hunter-Varmint Hunter class shooting here in the East where it is on the decrease and SouthEast where it is practically non existant.

We could find a way to make it possible to shoot predictable 250's with 6 power rifles I believe they would be a lot more popular.

are NOT a good thing. That would be boring and a negative. 6X is HARD, it should remain HARD and be a CHALLENGE. That way when a win happens it is something to be coveted. There are Winners and Losers. Reality bites and it SHOULD be that way.

I for one am very pleased w/ the equipment we have today and the fact that 250's don't grow on trees. The competition is key and the competitor MUST be willing to fight and scratch all the way. Anything less should go play with the big scopes and be happy.
