The Roosevelts

Where are the Americans...???

They're sitting here typing on the computer while Rome burns...

At my age of 74, I have lived under the administrations of a lot of Presidents. I have made a light study of all the Presidents and I can say that nearly all of them have done the best they could for the people in this country.

One thing is for sure. We, the people, get the President we vote for.

Not All Of Us...

It may seem hard to believe, but some of us only type for brief periods each day. The rest of the time we earn a living, spend time with our families, recreate, etc. Basically, we lead normal lives. We see Rome burning and do what we can to help the water brigade. But the fire has gotten so widespread in recent years that us little guys are losing faith that it can ever be extinguished, especially when so many people have a vested interest in adding more and more fuel and battling the brigade.

Sounds like somebody voted and/or supported the wrong person into office and now are trying to justify things. Maybe they got a little bit too much of a so-called good thing when they found out they were paying for it.

Can you even imagine what kind of retirement and health plan you could have if you had all the money that the government took from you to fund social security and medicare? I sure would have liked to opt out and controlled my own money, I sure wouldn't be working now thats for sure.

I think you misunderstood the message. Who lit the fire in Rome and who is now adding fuel to keep it going?

It's important to know the answer to that question.

After 6 years you light your own fire. You can reach back and pull the other guy in, but you know it's wrong.

I don't believe you know who lit the fire which destroyed Rome, nor the political reasons for it, nor the political fallout after......nor even who benefited from it.

You can answer with one word, but if you do I'll ask you to support it with "why"..... :) the reasons it's significant.

You're a guy who "can't understand why people think Al Gore benefits from "Global Warming" rhetoric!"

Googling, calling out won't help with understanding the historical significance...

"I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you"

LOL!

The difference between believing and knowing

I don't believe you know who lit the fire which destroyed Rome, nor the political reasons for it, nor the political fallout after......nor even who benefited from it.

Actually, I think I do understand pretty well why Rome is burning, how it started, whose interests have been hurt and who benefited from the blaze--I'm a pretty good arson investigator and the Rome fire is the biggest case of arson in recent times.

As usual, "believe" is the key word in your statement. Every time you respond, your belief system dictates the content of your thoughts. Don't misunderstand--we all operate within the confines of our own unique belief system. But unlike mine, part of your belief system is that only Al knows the "truth" and Al's beliefs are more important than others--just like his opinions.

Let's face the facts--no matter what I say you feel the need to marginalize my comments, to disrespect me, really. So it's a waste of my time to explain anything to you. And so I won't.

LOL indeed!!

The average person if hit with the wrong illness would be wiped out within two months in the hospital. Over sixty percent of the average Americans would be flat broke four years into retirement without social security due to miss management of their savings. The government cost to support that percentage of people, would be far greater than the present bill. Why do you think the depression was so devastating? There was no recovery plan to help the people whose savings over a life time were wiped out within months because of bank failure. Even now after the 2008 recession, we are a lot better off than Europe and Asia.

I think we better stick to firearm discussion because the ignorance of true economics here forms no basis for an informed discussion. With the amount of funds available to the wall street crowd due to pension funds and 401K monies, which has forced almost everyone into the market, nothing could have stopped the greed caused failure of the major investment firms. And eventually, it will happen again. Just be sure you're far enough away from the market not to be hard hit.

"Same planet, different world"

I'm referring to Rome. It's something called history...... it's not "burning," it burned a long time ago.

And we can learn from history.

Agreed, Bill. I'm 76 and I think I see the problem. You say "We the People" get who we vote for, true. 'We the People" also get the results of the FEEDBACK we give them. How many of you, the average American, provide any feedback/communication to your elected representatives? Why do the lobbyists get all the attention? They are the only ones who talk to the policymakers!!!!!

Vic--If you would ask your question direct to the point maybe someone can answer it or at least give you an opinion.

I am not sure about that. I heard that George Sartious or however you spell it owns and built the voting machines. Matt

Also the IRS corruption that hurt one side from getting their message out, very disgraceful and plain outright cheating. When the tables are turned, a lot of us will turn a deaf ear too.

Maybe Not...

And we can learn from history.

Not if we view history through the distorted lens of a belief system skewed by partisan biases. Or if we modify the facts to conform to our belief system.

Far too many "historians" these days ignore history and substitute their own opinions for historical facts.

This the opinion i 've formed from own readings.
In 1913 there were two major pieces of legislation passed by the U S congress. #1 was the Federal Reserve Act and #2 was creation of the I R S.
In the 1920's we had the roaring 20's + a stock market bull ,, then the bust of the Great Depression. In the 1990's till the 2008 we had we have had two stock bulls and a real estate bull and two busts . These were created by the Federal Reserve. With each bust it takes more fiat money to restart the economy. INFLATION. Our money is always in a decline of value,It is difficult to replace when you are retired . Our money has no VALUE. Wall Street and the big banks are in charge. Remember this last bust ? how many banks got bailouts and not one went to prison after trillions of $ disappeared.

America is still blessed with many good people, but with each financial crisis people turn to the Socialist party for help, that party becomes stronger with each crisis.

My opinion. 1 or 2 more cycles like this and America is toast.
