Since No One has bothered to Thank Wilbur I thought I would.​
Just not for updating the IR 50/50 Match Results but for putting up with me while we worked trying decipher what clubs had sent in for their matches.
He had to do the Results that were mailed to him – especially the one written on Toilet Paper. I spent 3 days translating the rest. Now I know why it takes Wilbur so long to update. Eight or ten were in a document format which had to be retyped into the scoring program. Another 40 or so were in 10 year old scoring programs or just an excel sheet that aren’t compatible with anything and also had to be entered into the IR 50/50 scoring program so we could get usable match results. I ended spending over 45 hours translating all this garbage.

I WOULD like to THANK the Clubs who used my scoring program and just sent the Results Email. I could add all their results to the database with one click of my mouse button.
That was approximately 25 results in 15 seconds verses 40 hours to do 50.

Come on Shooters give us a little help!
Learn how to use the Scoring Program.
Take the time to enter your Match Data and Scores Correctly.
If you would like to see equipment on the website then enter your Equipment.
Email only the Results Email on a timely basis.

If you don’t have a computer I will get you a computer.
If you can’t get the latest copy of the scoring program I will send you one.
If you can’t get excel I will send it to you.
You do not know how to use a computer or the scoring program I will teach you!

To open Windows Excell documents and all other Windows office programs, there is a vey nice Free download that is on par or better than Windows - OPENOFFICE.ORG.

Download the free program and get everything Windows office has. joe :)
 
Thanks Wilbur, and you too Doug! You're right Doug, all results should be sent in electronically and in the right format. It'd make things much simpler, and faster too.
 
Excell doesn't work on all operating systems. Be nice if the scoring program worked on open office, it will run on windows or linux and it is FREE.

Good work Doug. Take a look at Gateway for March. Do you want all the results sent in Excel? Does the version make a difference. I have the latest version but revert to the older one (97) when I save data. E-mail addressto send to?

I fixed the double entry for the Gateway March results...or think I did. Check it out to make sure I did it right.

Bill Smith and Ron Barr do a pretty good job of sending the Gateway results but thanks so much for the offer.
 
Look around Y'all

While the results look the same as they always have, we made some fairly drastic changes "behind the scenes". If you would, please look at the matches that interest you for problems. Call me if/when you find something wrong (423-443-9449). After a while, it all runs together for me....Too many trees to see the forest.

If you emailed results earlier than this weekend (6/12) and don't see them please call.

I'm almost done with the mail in results. If the phone stops ringing for about two hours tomorrow, and it should, we'll be real close to caught up.

so there is a lot more to the story than told at first. no wonder wilbur with his LIMITED TIME was on the verge of giving up.

maybe results not sent in correctly wont be dealt with due to time restraints.

What Can You do to Help Wilbur & Me??

Use the latest copy of the scoring program. Version 5B is the most stable for now.
When we get this done I will update to Version 6 with what we have learned. Including Clubs & new Shooter Name list.

When Using the scoring program:
Do not change your Club Name or Club ID unless approved by Wilbur.
When entering Shooters use the Names in the LookUp Tables. If a shooter is not there then go ahead and add him but make sure you spell his name and ID correctly.
Do not use apostrphys anywhere in the program they will crash the database. A recent example of this was Bull’s Eye Range. Another example is Joe O’Brian.

Shooters it is Your Responsibility to Check Your Name and ID if you whant your results to be used on the website.
If you see any spelling errors on the IR50/50 Match Results please email me and I will do a one time update of the database!

What he is trying to do is the very best way to do it for the moment but I want to make sure everyone understands:

You are the "customer", and around here the customer remains - always right. The greatest problem is not (nor has ever been) with the customer but rather the customer service.

Certainly, sending match results that are accurate and in the preferred format is best, but sent by carrier pigeon written in Chinese is OK with me if that's the best way for you.

Doug's gonna kill me for this post, but I trust intelligence to merge the two points into one.

PS: Forget this Link!

Just for the heck of it I called the Chinese Embassy in Washington a few minutes ago and was surprised when the Ambassador answered to phone on the 2nd ring. Turns out they are having a State dinner tonight so when I explained Wilbur’s problem he said wait a sec and transferred me to the Attaché of Foreign Affairs who was there for the dinner.
The gentleman was very fluent and spent 20 minutes on the phone with me while I explained what Wilbur’s potential problem could be.
Net Result was he said that if Wilbur would spend at least six months at the American University of Beijing then he could possibly be able to transcribe the match results but he was not positive?.
So Please Send in All Match Results in Chinese so Wilbur can have a well deserved vacation.
And Maybe you will get your Match Results posted on the website but you will need forward them to Wilbur in Beijing and because he will be in class.
