TEXAS SHOOTOUT L/V H/V 100 Sat Results Midland Texas

Tomball Gun Club
The L/V 100 and H/V 100 yardages were contested today in adverse weather condtions.
Temps were up in the mid to high 90's and the winds were gusting straight across at 25+mph.

Results are limited in that I only have the yardage winners. Hopefully someone else can chime in and add to the update.

L/V 100 - Johnny Cook .2432 agg ( I was told that this was Johnny's first
yardage win.)

H/V 100- Mike Conry .2134 agg

L/V and H/V 200 will be contested tomorrow.

FYI- Jackie placed 5th in the H/V100 with his 30BR.

Vic,

It sounds like the guys had the typical trigger pulling contest in Midland. Sorry I missed this one.

Saturday was horrendous, typical Midland stuff. 15-20 mph, left to right, right to left, ebb and flow.

But, Sunday was very little condition at all, besides the constant drizzling rain. (how come it only rains in Midland when I go there??). It was a trigger pull by the standards that we usually have to put up with.

Which irks me to no end, because my Rifle, (6PPC Sporter) was locked into about a .250 agg capability all day. Add the usual shooter errors, and you end up at .280+. That ain't good in those conditions.

I could adjust my tuner, and nail a "three" (200 yards), only to have it go .600 verticle the next group. I put up with this all day. This particular barrel needs someone a lot smarter than I am to get it to work.

I tried several loads, turned the tuner no less than four times during the day, and that's all it had. I should have just shot the 30BR Sunday. At least the bullets out of it went where the conditions pushed them.

But I still had a good time. I had my Wife, both Grand Daughters, and our two Dachunds. Got to watch the NASCAR Race Sat Night, and see all of my shooting friends.

I really appreciate Mike, and the rest of the Midland gang for putting on these Matches. It's a long drive, but it's good trip........jackie

Jackie,

I don't think smart enough has anything to do with a barrel like that. There are only so many combinations. Baggett calls a barrel like that a 'teaser', and there is nothing more aggrevating or frustrating than having one. I have had a couple of them, and I wasted enough components in them trying to make them shoot to have paid for another barrel.

Heide and I had our 30th wedding anniversary on Saturday and I couldn't talk her into going to Midland (kind of narrow minded if you ask me), but after I saw what ya'll were shooting in on Saturday, I felt a little better about missing it.

Good luck with the sporter.
