Team USA Friendly ?

I noted on another thread about what a good bloke Dan Brown is, i thought i would take that a little further on a seperate thread.

At last years WRABF World Championships many of us who really are novices at Air Bench looked to TEAM USA for help and advise. I would have to say that the way that team members helped the rest of the world was second to none that i have ever seen at any comp before.

There were many and just to name a few Todd, Dan, Dave, Rick, Wayne & LD that all helped with a smile, equipment and parts...Todd especially for me was great to meet as we had had conversations leading up to the Worlds and still do now.

Which brings me to this Dan Brown fellow.....So the LV Air had been run and won by Dan & the Teams was won my Aus Team, we are in the middle of the HV comp and i noticed a rubber thingy hanging on to part of my air rifle that shouldn't have been there and the accuracy had dropped. I was trying to work out with Brett Wilson what was wrong and where it came from when Dan B came over. To say he helped is an understatement, he went over to his gear and came back with i reackon at least 100 little rubber seals of all shapes and sizes and proceeded to fix the air rifle for us.

A very pleasant change from some of the politics and back stabbing we sometimes see in sport at the top level. Team USA Air should be congratulated and i should also say Team USA Rimfire also handled themselves in a very similar manner.

Thanks Bill. It is funny you mention my box of orings. It had grown into two boxes of orings by last week. When I needed a seal it could take me over five minutes to find one. I complained to my wife and she came home one day with a giant fishing tackle box with over 100 compartments. I spent a few evenings last week and sorted all my orings into the box. Now it takes me just seconds to find what I need.
I hope to be at the next worlds and see you and others there.
Dan

But you lot, as well as the UK blokes, made up for it, with the offer of a nice cold beer on a hot and muggy post-match afternoon.

LD make sure you qualify & make the trip Down Under for the WRABF World Champs in 2015, im sure your Hawaiian Shirts, Shorts and Thongs will fit right in, you may never ever want to go home :)

Bill,

I had soooo much fun at the world championships! Driving over 5,000 miles seems like nothing.. and I'd be doing it in a minute to see all you great folks again. 2015 is way to far off! I can't wait that long to get together with ya'll again! I hate flying.. maybe those great engineers down under can make me a bridge, so as I could drive down there:) ... then LD and I could drive down every weekend:)

LD,

I do plan to build my "Wacky Wayne's Wonder Water Wagon", sometime soon, but it's not gonna be a very fast boat:) So a floating bridge is in order.. if ya don't mind.. sort of like the yellow brick road sounds really fun:)

Hey, this sport is growing soooooooo fast, by 2015 we'll be bigger than the Olympics, so the world bodies will fund the project no problem. AND... The trucking industry and oil companies will surely like the idea:)

I shot my Air Rifles three times at the club I am a member of in Florida this winter. all three times at least one person came over to look at what I was doing and at my rifles. All of them expressed interest in getting into Air Rifles. A couple of them have pretty good Springers and have had them for years. One of them is an active Rimfire "Club" shooter. He told me he was selling some CF rifles to finance a good Air Rifle. He was most interested in my EV-2 and my CZ. I too share the beleif that Airgun Benchrest will grow to be BIG.

Good to see yu have changed your m ind about not wanting to use equipment that would right off be "World Level". There is challenge to be found even with more common equipment, and it is a lot of fun trying all kinds, just to see ....

We are discovering more and more that fortunately, with the more powerful sporters outdoors in wind, the conditions re a huge equalizer, and a decent score can often be fired without absolutely requiring top of the line custom target only rigs (though that's fun too).

Pete,

While our game has had some earlier beginnings and we should pay tribute to those organizers, match directors and shooters, the game today is different because it is changing and changing rapidly.

You can see this change in the scores, the X counts and the equipment. Those that were around during the early days of rimfire benchrest development can see this better than most.

Make no mistake, air rifle benchrest is not the little brother to rimfire but we should look at the history of their progress and learn and hopefully avoid their mistakes along the way.

We need rifle classes that bring in new shooters and keep them around, we need ultra competitive shooters who will continue to raise the bar, we need an electronic scoring platform and targets to ensure that human bias is eliminated, we need a cottage industry to bring us actions, barrels, stocks and pellets with quality far beyond what we had before, we need gunsmiths and other craftmen to wring the last drop of accuracy available, we need an organization that will stand the test of time come hell or high water and we need to keep it all fun and enjoyable.

We have come a long way and there is more to come.
