The 2011 Air Rifle Benchrest World Championships are scheduled for July 30, 2011 through August 7, 2011 at Palmetto Gun Club in Charleston, South Carolina.

Team USA qualifying requirements are outlined below and at usairriflebenchrest.com. We wish all shooters good luck in their qualifying efforts.

1.Qualifying will begin on November 1, 2010 and continue through May 31, 2011.

2.Qualifying will consist of shooting three (3) targets, outdoors between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. with the overall Aggregate Score and X count for those three targets being submitted for consideration to the Qualifying Committee.

3.Qualifying will be offered in each of four (4) Rifle Classes, as defined by the World Rimfire & Air Rifle Benchrest Federation (WRABF) Rulebook available for viewing at: www.wrabf.com. All Rifle Classes will be shot simultaneously. Only LV and HV Class B will be contested at the World Championships.

4.Qualifying will be for both regular and junior (16 and under) shooters.

5.Qualifying will be done at a range/club that has been registered with the committee and as part of regular matches or as separate qualifying matches, according the ranges/clubs schedule. Match directors should provide as much advance notice as possible of those dates and start times and forward that information along to the committee so that it can be posted on the www.usairriflebenchrest.com website.

6.Qualifying is to be done by shooting at a distance of 25 Meters = 27.34 Yards = 82.02 Feet when at all possible. For those Clubs unable to provide a distance of more than 25 Yards, an exception can be made and will need to be duly noted when the range/club is registered and when submitting scores for consideration to the committee.

7.Those hoping to qualify will do so by making certain that their equipment, including rifles and rests, are in full compliance with the WRABF Rulebook for the Class being contested as shown at: www.wrabf.com.

8.Scoring is to be done for all calibers by using an approved .22 caliber gauge/plug and by a Scorer who will not be attending the World Championships. If it so happens that all shooters present are trying to qualify, then Scorer cannot score his/her own targets, but instead must allow an alternate Scorer to score his/her targets.

9.Scores will need to be transmitted to the committee by the match director for compilation, the results of which will be posted each month on the www.usairriflebenchrest.com website for review.

10. There is a WRABF imposed limit of 15 total shooters per Rifle Class, per Country allowed for each of the two Classes being contested at the World Championships. After the qualifying period has ended, the top 25% of all scores submitted in each of the four Rifle Classes will have qualified for Team USA. A shooter may only qualify in one Rifle Class, but multiple attempts in a single Class OR in multiple Classes will be allowed. If a shooter submits qualifying scores in more than one Rifle Class, he/she will have to choose which Rifle Class he/she is planning on competing in at the World Championships and submit that decision to the committee. After the qualification period has ended, invitations will be sent out to those who have qualified starting with the best scores from each of the Rifle Classes and working down the list going from best to worst in order to determine who will be able to travel to the World Championships, plus any team pairings that may have to be accommodated along with their alternates, so long as any or all have met the qualification standards listed here and on the referenced websites.

I was remiss earlier not to mention that a great deal of help was provided in putting together this set of rules. Hopefully, what we have put together is clear, concise and fair. I will allow each of the gentlemen responsible to step forward and take a bow, if they so choose. In any case, my heart felt thanks goes out to each of them for their insight and experience.

We will hold Matches at Pearland and in Houston

Nice target we are looking forward to the challenge.

Welcome and good luck to you and all of the shooters from your area.

Will be having matches at 25 Meters out doors in the spring.

Starting Nov 6 we will be having indoor matches the first Sat of each month. Starting at noon. Will be at 25 meters and on the world targets.
Will have CRONY set up, pellet scale. Maybe David can bring his scale to weigh your gun also? For those that don't want to shoot <20 fpe thats fine and you still can use your one piece rest. I will post both. You will have to shoot at 25 meters though. The 7ft difference isn't much.
Hope you can make it Sat and give the world target a try.
Good chance to set up your guns for <20 fpe. Also I will have a couple of front rests and rear bags you can use. Will try to get three guns running for Sat.
The people with < 12 fpe please bring what you have and see how you do!!
Cost $5.00.
Will shoot a 4th target maybe AGBR (still have 700 of them!!!)

We too at the Temecula Wine Tasting, Balloon Viewing and Airgun shooting Club (TWTBVASC) will also be holding 25M matches beginning the 21st of this month, though we will contnue with the usual fifty yard shooting at the discretion of the club membership.

Even though I had announced my retirement from Match Directing back in September, I will be asking for permission from Pinnacle Mountain Fish & Game in Lyndeborough, N.H. to hold monthly qualification matches starting sometime after the first of the year. It could be getting kind of cool up there by then, but the wood stove works well, and then will come April and May.

Once I've put together a schedule I'll be posting it both here and on the www.usairriflebenchrest.com website for those who care and/or might like to try their hand at shooting when the temps are hoovering at well below freezing. Notice how I'm trying to stay away from mentioning the wind when it gets that cold, and the effects that can have on both guns, and pellets ....okay, and on fingers. Of course, you can always wait until April and May, then go from there.

Guys there may be only 2 classes at these World Champs for Air being LV and Heavy Class B, Committee is working on this as we speak and I will advise asap.

Thank you

Bill,

Thank you for that update. We will change our qualification document when we have your confirmation.

No problem I will let you know asap. There will also be a WRABF AGM there to discuss all these things and the next World Champs.

Looking forward to that Dave. I've been practicing before work shooting about one target per day. So far with my .177 barrel and CPH I'm averaging about a 244 7x. I'm not too happy with the barrel/pellet combo, I still get strange fliers every seven shots or so.

Cris I should have the schedule out in a day or two but pretty sure you can bet on 2 Air Rifle Events over the first 2 days of World Champs, being LV & HV Class B. Sporter and HV Class A probably will not fit in as we also have weigh ins, scope checks, presentations etc and also want to have the WRABF AGM after the Air & before the Rimfire so the air guys are still around to have some input. So you can effectuvely have 3 teams of 3 in each of those classes if you wish.

Bill,

Thank you for the confirmation of only two (2) rifle classes, LV and HV Class B. We will change our qualification document accordingly.

Too bad about the reduction in classes. This for sure cuts interest in particippation I would guess.

Hey there Realld, I understand your frustration but.....

It was just going to be too long, as it stands the World Champs will be run over 7 very full and long days, u will see when u get there that the host country will be the only one with specialist teams, all the others will send a small team that will shoot most events. We do however aknowledge that this is growing even though it is only the WRABF's 2nd World Championships. I will bring the schedule and events up at AGM which will be on the 2nd afternoon after the HV Air Gun, who know's the future may be shoot all classes but also split the event into 2, (Air & Rimfire) on seperate dates and or venues. For now you have the great opportunity to attend a World Championships @ home in 2 events of Air Gun benchrest and I understand that is better than what has been offered in the past which is none. Let's make it work and that will only help it grow, who knows in 2015 u may have a trip of a lifetime Down Under at a World Champs?

Bill,

We will do everything in our power to make it work. However, I was much too hasty in changing the Team USA qualification requirements.

In order to grow the sport, we need as much participation as possible. The four (4) rifle classes outlined in the WRABF rulebook allow shooters a wider latitude of air rifles to choose from. Even if a particular rifle class will not be contested does not necessarily preclude qualification for Team USA.

Therefore, I have asked the qualification committee to consider all of the options and give me their feedback. I will announce their decision as soon as I have it.

Hi Cris,

Talk to Craig Young over there, have whatever qualification process you guys are comfotable with just understand ther will only be 2 matches at WC.

Bill,

We completely understand. Thank you for all of your help.

Absolutely! Would-be qualifiers SHOULD be allowed to shoot lighter and less powerufl guns in the "higher" classes, should they desire. I feel results from ANY gun that qualifies for one of the four classes should be accepted for consideration.

More importantly, ALL the qualifier scores and equipement should then be listed for the benefit of the entries as well as the public at large, as this would have the makings of a truly interesting and exciting contest in itself! Sure, many may not make the cut in the end, but think how much their activities could benefit airgun shooting sports, and esp airgun benchrest shooting in the USA?
