T/C Encore Bench Gun

Husker, again kudo's for honesty!

"The other groups were .612”, .432”, .682”, and .537”." These are very good answers to the OP's question. You guys have redefined "accuracy" on the Contender platform.

I think that with honest posts like these everybody wins.

I’m pleased you think I’m being honest, but by posting about approaching .5MOA with a rimfire at extended range…..any experienced smallbore shooter is going to have trouble believing it’s possible with a Contender.

Even custom bolt guns approaching this accuracy level at 100 yds or meters are considered exceptional and if I had posted this in the rimfire section of this forum….I would be getting flamed ruthlessly. This may still be a mistake on my part if any rimfire guys notice this thread.

Flamed...LOL

Husker ,
I can totally understand your concerns...And , I can admit ,things like this eat away at me ,sometimes . But folks have a right to there disbelief and opinions .
When I state my goals ,or say, I'll be shooting a Contender to / and beyond 1000 yards , you should hear some of the replies ....lol ... TORCH ON ...lol .. But thats OK . I can live with it...
Its a Hoot and worth everything when my spotting buddy looks up at me from his Kiowa's with that grin on his face and says ..." You Got Em..."

Thanks

“Here is my question for you. Do you want to learn how to make a TC do IT'S BEST or do you want to learn how to do YOUR BEST ?”

crb,

I always want to do my personal best of course...my concern here is that I want to do this using my Encore if possible. I am not expecting to set any records here, I only want to enjoy making my Encore unique and being able to shoot it in a competition if I wish. I have plans to build a BoltGun as well at a later time. I already have the Encore and my project for now is to add a new barrel ( 6mmBR) I willl use this barrel for shooting in local Match's, personal enjoyment at the range, and I also hope to go out to TX on a PD shoot this next year. I have already purchased my Boyd's Thumbhole Stock. I will be doing the trigger work myself as I did on my Contender/G2. I will add optics that will compliment both Varmit and Target shooting. This is what I am going to do to my Encore reguardless of how many people tell me it is useless...its a personal desire of mine. However, I can understand where one could take this overboard. I do appreciate your thoughts and suggestions, and I can see the Pros and Cons of this project.

With any project there are always better choices than one might make. I have already touched a bit on building that BoltGun from a Rem 700 action....already I have had numerous people involved in BR reccommend that I go with a Custom Action. No matter where you choose to start there will always be "the next best thing" lurking out there. If I were about to embark on a quest to set world records and become the next Hall of Fame entry, I would spare no expense. But, Im your average guy wanting to have some fun shooting in a few Matchs and test the waters. I am not imune to change, but for now. I dont want to be that Rookie that shows up at the Match with the most flambouant, custom rig anyone has seen in recent yeas along with all the bells and whistles...that has absolutly no idea what he is getting himself into. Im sure if you have ever competed in any type event you have come across this guy:D

Go to an event. You can spectate and absorb the whole experience or take a rifle and shoot the match. The main thing is to go asap so you can see if BR grabs ahold of you or not. Going asap might save you a lot of money in the end.

Just for grins ,another project of mine a xp100 converted to a rear grip ,Shilen 2 oz trigger ,Hart SS 6br 13 twist barrel , Stock by C&J Machine . This rig now carries a T36 weaver and a Davis Booster with Burris base and rings . barrel and bolt stop .Gunsmithed by the Colorado School of Trades ,Denver,Colorado .I'm just started shooting this ,and as of yet haven't settled on a load . But I do have a 6PPC Hart barrel waiting in the wings , I'll use this BR to learn this game ....lol .

Thanks

Now that's nice...great job on the xp. Been gone a few days. Will get some pics of my Custom BR pistol and send them to you. Don't know how to post them myself. If I send them to you...feel free to post them. Here is some info on it.

Stolle Cub pistol action, left bolt and port
Kelbly BR pistol stock.
jewel trigger
(2) 6ppc .262nk barrels
Kelbly rings
Davidson riser blocks
Leupold 36X BR-D scope

I am the second owner of this. This is Tom Libby's yellow pistol that almost won the BR pistol shoots the two years Shooter's news had them. Bought it from Tom a couple of years ago.

This pistol will group in the ones but I haven't gotten the techique down good enough to do it consistantly, but it sure is fun to shoot. I am going to put a variable on it and shoot varmits. The next barrel will probably be a 220 beggs or a 22-100short to minimize recoil. Someone on here may have a pic of it. I know there were pics of it in Shooter's news.

crb,

I have already been to 2 such events...and it already has a grasp on me:D
In fact this next month there are 3 such match's I will attend if my schedule allows:D

I am difinetly going to shoot in the BR matchs that are held here local. What I am not certain about is if it takes me beyond this. If so there is definelty going to be a New BoltGun sooner that what I anticipate:D

Keep the post going..it is intresting reading. I have learned much from this thread, but it is time for me to move along now as I have other questions and post to make. I will be following the thread and I am glad to see this much attention focused here! Thankyou all:D

Coming soon to a range near you!

I'm still learning wind and how to read flags.
I shoot better in score matches than group, or I should say I always figure out a way to ruin a good group. A lot of work has been done since these photo's were taken. Not too much you can see though.
6BR with a Krieger barrel in 14 twist. The rifle shoots well enough to win, I dont.
It is just plain FUN. Glad I did it, My son (Mark 9 years old) is now kicking my butt in group with his bolt gun, he's beating other bolt gun shooters too. Thinking of going to a 30 BR in the Encore just for score and going to a bolt gun myself for group.

Hey Kim,

Glad to see you on this post. I had contacted you last week while you were on Vacation about joining your forum and about your custom work on Encores.
You probably know me as Kisatchie on your forum. Brandon Jennings is my given name and I am from Louisiana! Impressive things you have done with your Encore. Thanks for posting the pics for these guys to enjoy!

Hi Vince
Yes a stubbed Kreigger HV barrel, and a Denzell Roberts stock set.

Wow

Gentlemen ,
Very Nice Guns , Got to love the Custom Actions , Barrels etc ...Lots of Smithing time in these for sure . Those Lee Six Stocks seem to rate Very High on the Bench Pistols .... Very Nice indeed .You all seen to really like the Bar on the grips as well , I bet they ride the Bunny Ear bags really well ,and add weight also But has any one tried a V Block attached to the grip instead? Ibeen been working on these things and would appreciate any insights.

Thanks

Vince,
The bar on seems to work well with the short ears. The problem I found with a V block on the bottom is getting it to settle in consistantly. Recoil with the V block and larger ears move around a lot more and need more rearranging to get on target. Plus the added bearing surface only seems to make the pistol want to jump more. The bar like is on mine will let the gun slide rearward and minimize muzzle jump (which there is still plenty). When I tried a V block, sometimes the front of the gun would jump clean out of the front rest. The block acted more like a fulcrum than a stabalizing/sliding asset. The grip and 2oz trigger takes a while to master, which I haven't done yet.

Thank You
