I am looking at a Suhl sold by Williams, Gunsmithing and McMillan stock installed by Tim McWhorten. Any thoughts on this for use as a benchrest gun.

Jerry:

If the price is good, buy it... You cannot go wrong with a McWhorter smithed Suhl... I have had three McWhorter smithed Suhls and they all shot great.. Sold one to Joe Haller, who is still shooting it and I have two left.. One is my wife's "Rebel" Suhl and the other one is my back-up... The Suhl's have one of,. if not the best, triggers that you will find on a rifle...

Another question, what is the twist? I have heard 1-19 this is fairly slow, how do they shoot in the cold?

Suhl's come in many twists.
Mine is between 16.5 & 17.
If I remember right One of the most Famous Suhls - Old Blue was slightly over 19 & shot great in any condition!

Doug-I noticed your location on the post about Suhls.

I have a Suhl 150. On the bottom of the barrel about 3-4" from the muzzle it says on line one-- C.M.O.
Line two-- Sav. Ga.

Very small imprinted letters.
Does/did McWhorter live in Savanagh. Probably not but CMO whoever he was most likely did/does. Who is CMO??

To the original poster-grab that Suhl. Jim Williams(Stone Mt, Ga) was said to have imported about 700 of em.

I have two Suhls, both with 19 twist barrels. They shoot VERY well at 50yards but don't work worth spit at 100 yards.

So, if you are going to shoot 50 yards only, they work GREAT. My BR stocked gun with a Harrel tuner and JJ Slide is averaging around .235" CTC for 5 shot groups right now at 50 yards outside with flags.
