suggested ban on assault weapons

Here's how to take care of the drug related AWB red herring.
LEGALIZE DRUGS and the drug cartels will whither away for lack of profitability.

But what are you going to do with all teh out of work narco, DEA , etc, agents.

Read recently a small town in TN, weed is stimulating their economy so they are not busting anyone for it.

Vinny Is Correct

Utilizing the imprudent, therefore illegal Community Reinvestment Act, ACORN bought solicited votes for the Democratic Party and dumped the bad loans on Fannie & Freddie , poisioning our financial foundation. Now also, its Just like Jim Cramer on CNBC warned about how the Bolsheviks took over the banks by nationalization. (literally-throwing the baby out with the bath water) I, and the majority of Americans are still trying to figure out how Affirmative Action is Equal Rights!

Maybe I'm the dumbest guy in town... Can someone explain to me how banning guns in this country will decrease crime in another country?

Please do not be misled: banning guns here is not now about and never has been about reducing crime, in the US or out. These are not dumb people, however wrong they are. They know that disarming the law abiding population does not reduce crime, the statistics are absolutely clear about what happens when bans are in place. It is about control, and forcing the greatest number of people to rely on them for the most things: safety and security, income, health care, etc. The more they are needed by the subjects, the greater their power. The less chance of anyone resisting them, the greater their power.

The move to ban the falsely named "assault weapons" is done because it worked as a starting point the last time:

These guns look scary.

They can be demonized to the general public by the PR wing of the Democrat Party: Hollywood and the US Media.

They will even find *again* people who are gun owners to be useful dupes and make statements to the Media about "AR-15's have no sporting use" (you may recall one "gun writer") and how your hunting guns are good and will be protected, just we need "common sense gun laws" for these evil assault rifles. This argument also serves to remove dangerous handguns from you, your wives, moms, grandmoms, and anyone else who may be able to protect themselves from crime without the government's help.

Of course, since the idea is to disarm the majority, the next ban gets stricter. Also it becomes easier to pass since they deal with a smaller number of subjects. Plus, since crime helps them two ways: first by creating more victims who need their help, and second by creating another excuse, the increased crime that follows the first ban is a plus to the gun ban folks; there is no downside to it for them.

It is this concept that must be presented anytime one hears a gun owner who either is saying that maybe we don't "need" these evil black rifles or who believes the lie that *his* guns are safe, it's just this type or that type that is being restricted.

Economics

Let me understand this

1. A Mexican drug cartel with BIG MONEY would rather spend the time and effort to buy a semi-automatic AK at a US gun show for $800 and then smuggle it back to Mexico than spend about $150 to buy a fully automatic AK delivered to them from a Eastern European/African arms dealer----- what am I missing here Mr. Holder?

2. And just which gun show did they go to to buy hand grenades and crew served machine guns? These were shown in the news releases and identified as coming from the US.

Oh yeah, that is right - you don't care about truth, you just want to take our guns away!

I'd be willing to bet that most of the full auto guns being used by the drug lords in Mexico have been stolen from (or given to them by) the Mexican Federal Police or military, OR bought from China or other not really friendly foreign governments. They tried to import a bunch if selective fire AK's into CA 10 or 15 years ago in cargo containers id'd as something else. Fortunately they were intercepted by Customs since they were apparently headed for gangs in CA and elsewhere in the USA.

That obviously means we need to close "gun show loopholes", stop personal sales of guns, and ban assault weapons like those nasty autoloading shotguns amongst others. Wouldn't want to offend any foreign governments ya know.

I just read an article suggesting it would be very difficult if not impossible for the Obama administration to pass a tough anti-gun bill.

According to the article, there are at least 20 conservative Democrat senators who will vote with the Republicans. These senators may not be conservative on other issues, but they are from gun-friendly states and will vote the wishes of their constituency.

Apparently, the chances of some tough anti-gun bill going through are very remote.

Democrat votes

We have to be careful about counting votes. While there are Dems who will vote to protect us --there are pleanty of liberal republicans like A. Spector who will vote with the other Liberals. We need to support the NRA which will work for us in the courts.

I have to agree, there are Republicrats who will vote for gun control without blinking. An article in the local paper said that both Montana senators, liberal Democrats, told Holder to not push any gun control legislation like a new AWB because they'd be against it. Montana's sole representative is a strong pro-gun person, but in a lot of places the only difference between Rep's and Dem's is party affiliation, Arlen Spector being a prime example.

Vinny, try to have a conversation about Arlen Spector about his lack of conservatism with shooters from Pennsylvania. They just don't believe it. It's been this way with them since day one with this man. I think it is because that anyone that treats east coast conservatives with the slightest bit of kindness, they misinterprate it as being good to their side. After all, they have been beaten down by all sides for decades.

Spector

It may be a matter of urban vs. rural conservatives.
Most of my associates (from rural PA) have always seen Spector for what he truly is, a liberal career politician-- masquerading as a Republican.....even from his days as Philadelphia DA.

spector

needs to be beat in the may primarys. get the lier and turncoat out of office along with john mccain.
if the republicans reach across the aisle, voters must kick them out of office!
