Stopped Muzzle, Calfee

JUST MY IGNORANT TOUGHT

first of all, i'm a shooter, maybe a benchrest shooter that sometime have had success in it, sometimes all seems to go into the wrong directions... who care , this is THE GAME.

i really like Mr Calfee's articoles on PS, i really respect his vision of search of the graal of accuracy ( somebody says curiosity is the discrimine between fool and genius), but in my opinion, here too much theory isn't necessary.

the great of this forum , and his intentions are: ask for info, meeting people, make riendships, share ideas and , most important , give a help or a solution to a guy who need it.

we all have eachother respect, from the begginer to the most titulated shooter, i know it sound funny and obvious when somebody start a post like i.e." may i use factory norma 6ppc's loads in my custum chamber? " but men somadays in the past we'll all have had the same dilemma.

a shooter forum must be a shooter forum, not a university lesson.
i'm a lawyer , a cap. ( ret) of Italian Airforce, trained in strategy and tattics, i always look at facts not into myths.

i shoot my rifles into real world, fighting with the conditions , that #]@@@@#! vertical ecc, i know the perfect tune is a chimera, we'll tune the conditions not the rifle, AND i coud survive a 1/4 or 1/2 bullet of vertical, but during a competition,i didn't survive a plain inch of misread letup!

i've my own range, usually windy, and i do all my testing fighting the conditions and to learn how to evaluate when my gun shows is going out of tune and how to correct in conseguence.

i've shoot in a tunnel sometimes and is frustrating: it shows how ur rifle shoot but don't tell u nothing how u are shooting.

ok now i'm going out of theme..... so i'll stop here.

i guess my bad english is readable although the sense.

as a conclusion, it's ok to have theoretical posts here , knowlege is always appreciated, but then all the theory must be translate into facts capable to simplefy our life.

now i must finish my baggage, the Super Shoot is coming.

Bryce I guess I was missing your meanig in totality.

If you look at the last big nasty thread make sure you read post #46.Bill calls it post #50 but I am pretty sure he means post #46.
If that post isn't a help to all involved nothing is.
Also the reason he mentions Spec 4 is he was able to stop the muzzle using 5 different barrels.
Again that should be telling us it isn't dependent on a specific barrel profile yet it is repeatable.
You truly have to read every post he writes to pull it altogether. You can't be skipping through them and expect to follow his thoughts.
In a nutshell a 6 ounce tuner will get you in the ballpark as will a 13 ounce tuner.Neither will stop the muzzle on any of my guns.On occasion they will shoot extremely small but still need constant adjusting to stay that way.
I will continue to use the method described in post #46 by Bill and shoot my guns again in 100 degree heat this week to see if they stay tuned or go vertical on me.I will report my findings to Tim In Texas as we have been communicating off forum and trying to figure this all out.
The quality of the components used makes the testing much quicker and easier to repeat.I am fortunate in that Roger above has sold me a couple of weight sets
which make it a pleasure to test.

I will also send you a tuner as a gift to put on one of your own guns if you e-mail me off forum your shipping address in New Zealand. It will be a standard 6 ounce tuner that needs adjusting constantly but it will allow you to see why the muzzle needs to be stopped first hand.

Thank you Lynn, no hard feelings.

And thanks for the very generous offer, appreciate the thought. I am however waiting for you guys to figure this thing out so I can install a tuner that gives me a consistent match winning tune with no need to adjust the tuner or the load !! In the meantime I am just as happy to tune with the powder as alter a tuner all day to keep the rifle shooting.

Look forward to reading about your progress regardless of how you guys choose to conduct the discussions.

GLF,

Gian you are a gentleman!

"first of all, i'm a shooter, maybe a benchrest shooter that sometime have had success in it, sometimes all seems to go into the wrong directions... who care , this is THE GAME."

I hope you keep putting up with this "American Squabbling", sometimes we're NOT so far removed from The Colonies, ;) but we're still getting it done!

GOOD LUCK man at the SS!!! I'll never forget your last run........... I bet you STILL wake up in a sweat remembering that pressure eh??

BTW, if my Italian was half as good as your English ........... belay that, if my ENGLISH was this good ...... quote ("somebody says curiosity is the discrimine between fool and genius" ) ...... I'd be happy. You've a gift for communication.

just keep up the good work hey :)

Enjoying the show.

Is it even remotely possible that Bill has already done the testing on a centerfire?

He may be saying what he is saying based on actual results and throwing it out here just to watch the show.
Lynn

If that's the case - then I hope he's enjoying the show. I know I am.

Bryce,

Your post is enough reasoning to let Bill continue posting in the centerfire forum without everyone ganging up on him.
Without Bill's posts, the guys actually doing the testing will have a much harder time getting to the bottom of the puzzle.
