stock color

inj the summer months does a stock that is dark in color effect the riflesgrouping ability.has any one ever thought about this being that the action is glued into the stock and as the outside teps go upis this tranferred to the metal parts?
just asking ?

I hope not. Bob Scoville is building me a stock right now, in carbon fiber black.

I guess I could spray it down with white Krylon:D

Seriously though. I doubt it makes any diffence what color a stock is.

The only way you are going

to have issues is if you leave the rifle sit out in the sun. Even a white rifle will get hot in direct sunlight.

well,
black( flat is worst) absorbs heat, white( shinny/gloss) reflects heat.
is any of it enough to make a difference....not a clue.
and then there is the actual material of the stock.
and the bbl FINISH.

I have a friend who builds and competes with RC planes.

The science of keeping the planes together, in trim and flyable while they're parked out in the sun definitely includes color. I won't quote anything because I don't know anything but I've heard him complaining about having to strip back or remove dark colors to replace with light colors.

My take is that the composites soak heat, get floppy, delaminate etc....... my worry wouldn't be that they would get hot enough to affect the metal parts but even "high temp" epoxies disintegrate at a low enough temp that an electrical heat gun will easily take apart anything epoxied.

I don't trust composites beyond 150-180 degrees and on a hot day in the vermint patch I've covered/moved my guns as the stocks have gotten hot in the sun.

It's a circle jerk at times Ca. has now added additives to over the road diesel engines that derate the horse power, incure additional operating costs and down time and end up burning more fuel by having to up the horse power to make up for what was lost.

Must be a long winter already!
You could have an oversize ice chest with ice water to put your rifle in and then have a container of compressed air to blow it off before you go to the firing line.

There must be something to this color theme for expansion and contraction. Most composite aircraft are white!

Well, I know of at least one guy who brings his powder to a match in a cooler. During the summer of course.
