Stillers Precision Firearms has been chosen to supply the MK 13 action.

smitty,
I did. Spoke to Curtis. He told me that C00xxD on the action and 60xx on the bolt
were matching numbers. That is the way they did it. Just can't figure out why out of 3 reputable benchrest gunsmiths that I talked to have never seen this before. No matter now...the rifle is already built. Too late to look back.

Because the bolts for the vipers, rattlers and diamondbacks are all the same. The serial number dictates the action type in general. 0 are Vipers, 3 Ratlers, 6 Diamondbacks. We built a run of Diamondbacks that accidently started with 0 instead of 6. That is why there is a D on the end so it doesnt duplicate a Viper. The bolt has a 6 series so we knew it was a Diamondback's and didnt get mixed up.

I am curious though, if you already talked to curtis and asked the question and got the answer, why ask it again especially on a forum that I only occasionly read???? And, what are 3 reputable gunsmiths gonna know about our numbering methods that we didnt????

Well I guess the gunsmiths never saw one from the accidental run and I never got a full expanation from Curtis, only that was how you did it. Thanks for the answer/expanation though.

Rflshooter,

did the serial number have ANY impact on the quality of the product?

I can't see what the problem is as to matching numbers. Jerry explained and so did curtis.
Each action is hand fitted You can believe it's going to shoot and hold up'''
Stiller doesn't build JUNK. If you check 6mmbr.com you will see the specs on the new rifles. Photos are included also.
They are pretty impressive. The best of everything . Jerry Stillers actions will be the best they can make,

Edwin & Gerry,
As a matter of fact, no it didn't. The fit, finish and function of the action is very nice. That was my very 1st custom action that I plunked my HARD earned dollars down for and I was just somewhat disappointed that I happened to be one of the ones to get one of the actions that they accidentally made a mistake on. I'm not bashing here so don't make it out to be so. I asked a simple question to get a simple explanation that should have been expalined to me on the phone when I called. I think I deserved that much after spending that much money. As I said before, the rifle is already built, so I can't look back now. I got the expanation now so leave it rest. And one more thing Gerry, If Curtis had given me the explanation that Jerry just did, I wouldn't have had to ask the question, now would I?

Rflshootr,
I believe the majority plunked down HARD earned funds for our receivers. I think the guys look at it differently than you posted. We come to our suppliers side.
I think you will be very happy with your Stiller receiver. My diamondback drop port was the smoothest receiver that I have owned. My 2 Predators made excellent hunting rifles.
Stiller will always be there for you.

Butch,
I am happy with it. I never said I wasn't or indicated anything of the sort. I asked a simple question and everyone gets on their high horse. If I already knew the answer I wouldn't have asked. Well if you ask me, reading & comprehension aren't the finer points of some of the people here. I wish I could just tell them what I really had to say, but I won't go to that level.

Rflshooter,

pursuant to your original post, you stated, "Curtis answered your question"!!!

Edwin,
Did you happen to read my last post about comprehension? Now what I would like you to do, is go to post #28 on this thread. Read it very very sloooooooooowly. You will find that the answer that I got on the phone from Curtis was, and I quote, "Because that is the way we do it." If he would have explained it like Jerry did in post #29, (if you can understand what Jerry said) I would have known why it was serialized like it is. Now can you understand or do I have to explain another time?

Rflshooter,

you may need to come to Texas and give us a private tutorial!

That hurt

Joe,
You sound like my buddy Ron P. I'll give you a call next week

Glenn

I thought we were better friends than that Glenn. Now you get to buy. Did I tell you that I had an affinity for prime rib.:)

So
What does all of this Serial Number Crap or a smak down in Texas or being mad at some one because they didn't like an answer they received to a question have to do with the MK 13??

It looks sort of like to me that Jerry was proud that his company had been chosen for an important project and he just wanted to bring to light that a BR manufacturer had done something that they are actually intended to do, which is take things learned from BR shooting and bring that into main stream shooting to improve the equipment.
And you guys spent the last few days taking a crap all over his acheavement.

Good work Jerry! I am proud to know that the sport I compete in (BenchRest) could in some small way contribute to Joes on the ground getting better equipment. I am sure your actions will outclass anything they've had in their hands before. Which is saying a lot because the original MK 13 was pretty good Kit.
