my first(partial) chamber with my lathe.
i have mentioned before that i'm semi restoring an 03a3 mil rifle. one step was to replace a sporterized mil bbl with a stock mil bbl. the new bbl was timed for the action, but short chambered. with advice from guys here i built a reamer pusher, put a flat on my tap handle i used to hold the reamer, had previously built a spyder. i could not set up the bbl with the recvr in place, so took some measurements on the go/no-go gages with the recvr installed and with it only hand tight. knowing the diff allowed me to adjust the last cut to compensated for a full tight recvr.
after spending time on this board, all went smooth, cut till bolt closed with a slight feel to it, then an additional .002 . removed bbl to the bbl vice installed the recvr and all is well. very light feel on the go gage, easy close on factory ammo, slight feel on once fired( from another gun).

was concerned with my cut speed(90 rpm). not as shiny a finish in the chamber, but functional, no bands or marks on once fired commercial ammo case. its a gi bbl, but i think i will do a shoot and clean breakin.

next is a complete bbl from blank to bbl. but need a long reach indicator first.
thanks for all the help guys.

Good going Mike.

You'll find the barrels that you make yourself shoot a whole lot better than the ones somebody else makes.

too slick a chamber is not a good idea. sounds like you're on the right track.

Me too!

........just completed my first chamber job. I will find out later this week how well it works. I actually set back my oldest fire forming barrel. It fits up just AOK to the action, cone is great and the go/nogo works as they should. I used the Gordy Gritters method with the range rods and got it down to zero for the first 3.5" going into the bore, flipped it around and recrowned a 11 degree muzzle face.It took me quite a while but the the first one is done!
