Long story long:
I have been shooting here in Maine for 12 years at the local sand pit.
Not the best in the world but a place 10 Min. from home. Shoot off the tail gate on a camp chair. Not crowded and nice people, that is the few that came along. Big open area with 100 plus yards to shoot.
Well three weeks ago the Rangeley guides association leased the land, in fact the land owners gave it to the club for free.
I was there one day and it was a sand pit. Three day's latter it was all bull dosed leveled and set up with berms for 50 yard pistol and 100 yard rifle.
With nice shooting benches and target stands. Men they did a great job and made it a nice informal place to shoot. It is gated and all we had to do was singe a release and our $20.00 a year dues got us the combination to the gate lock.
#%&??^%$#@ Well yesterday Friday I was there and I got sick to my stomach. Some bastards were there on Thursday and walked in around the gate and Shot the place up. They shot up our singe, destroyed all the target stands with shotguns. Shot at Propane tanks, left piles of brass around and all kinds of garbage. They simply had there way with the place with shotguns rifles and pistols.
One of the club members built all the target stands and ate all the expense himself, a very nice F class shooter. He stopped by and couldn't
believe what he was looking at. The owner of a local sport shop in donating a trail cam to watch over the place.
Sorry for the long wind here--but this pissed me off to NO end.

We got some idiots like that at our club. Or maybe their guests.
We are gated with a combo lock. They had to start locking the club house. :mad:
Wow, that sounds like a nice group of people at your club. Can't beat $20.00.
 
I feel for you, it is a shame some A##@oles exist. The really bad part of it is they are apparently not even anti gun jerks. Here is to hoping everything gets fixed up and it doesn't happen again.

Anti gun jerks with guns ??? That would be a dichotomy. The more likely scenario: immature yahoos having perverted fun at someone's expense. :)

I thought we had it bad at our range with people shooting the target frames, shooting at oxygen bottles placed on the top of the middle berms and the occasional shot thru the outhouse! I sure hope there is some way you can catch those clowns. I can see why you are bent out of shape, nothing like building something and some idiots come by and destroy it.

Pick up every piece of brass they left, take pictures and tabulate the damages. Keep the brass segreated from yours and turn it over to the Sheriff or state police. You have a felony case and the idiots left their calling card. The spent brass is even better than the projectiles for the police to process as evidence. Believe me they will be back and will get caught. Then you can make a second case on them. You will feel better when the judge sentences them and they become convicted felons. They they will not legally be able to posess a firearms again. Beleive me I feel your pain I lease 5000 acres for unting and I have gates torn down every year.

Sounded like a place any club would be proud to have. For what its worth, did you file a police report? It may help in the future to document the damage. If you ever find someone destroying your property it may help if you deside to press charges. Good luck.
 
Now the Opposite

Yesterday, a guy bought a pie from our range kitchen, paid with a large note and said keep the change, he hadn't had such a good time on range before. Well organised and well run he said. Joe Public can be hard to take sometimes but this guy made my day.

For all those people out there working on ranges, some shooters do appreciate your efforts.

Yes this happens all of the time. sometimes it's a casual member many times it people trespassing on the property Post the range members only and no trespassing.
If you catch someone trespassing press charges.
If you do this one time and it hit's the papers I'm sure it will stop.
Best notify the local police. Sometimes then can patrol the area
It's happened more them once at our club [Camillus]
 
Some of the worst offenders

to the distruction of range equipment, from my experience are the various police Departments and Military folks who ranges GRACIOUSLY offer the facilities to. I have seen numerous incidents of target frames being shot up and the target frame holders buried in the ground being shot up. What in the heck do these people think when they are deliberately shooting an automatic weapon at a target frame simply to destroy it? And then we wonder about the civilian Knuckle Draggers, eh>
