So, How Is NBRSA Varmint For Score Going??

We are well into the shooting season, so now would be a good time to touch base with other Regions to see how the NBRSA's trial Varmint for Score program is going.

Here in the Gulf Coast Region, several ranges are having matches, many simply included the Registered Varmint for Score along side their regular Club Matchs.

We are yet to have our Registered Varmint for Score Match at Tomball, it will be July 17 and 18, and will be held in conjunction with the Texas State and Gulf Coast Region HBR. I am encouraging all of the shooters who are participating in our Club Matches to attend.

It will be a two day match, two entirely separate matches on Saturday and Sunday. I know that seems a little strange, but that will give shooters who travel a chance for a two day event. You shoot Saturday, and then do the same thing Sunday.

New Braunfels will be having a Varmint for Score Aug 22, and San Angelo is having their first one June 13, and then another Sept 12. Lake Charles will be hosting the Louisianna State July 25.

Right now, it looks like the Varmint for Score is appealing to those who are not traveling far. We have been to Austin and Lake Charles, it's less than 2 1/2 hours to each. That might be the appeal in the end..

Keep in mind, in order for the NBRSA to institute Varmint for Score as a Sanctioned Event next year, we, as shooters, have to show that we do indeed wish to participate. The clubs have stepped up and given us us the venues, the ball is in The Shooter's court.........jackie

Jackie,

Austin, as you know, is conducting a Varmint for Score registered match ... each month. With 12 matches this year we are indeed promoting the event. I hope other clubs will not only participate, but "increase" their promotion as well.

Okay, Jackie,
Our local super moderator(Bill Wynne) has invited you(another super moderator) to our 1st Registered VFS shoot this coming Sunday(June 13th). He is looking forward to meeting you as you are his favorite Super Moderator. :) Seriously, we would like for you and your fellow partners in crime to come to our shoot. I called your PR Guy (Vic) and told him to twist your arm. :)

Best,
Dan Batko

Dan, at thistime, with Varmint for Score being on provisionary status, we are sticking pretty close to home, that being Austin, (been twice), Lake Charles, (been once), New Braunfels, (will go), and of course our upcoming Tomball Match.

San Angelo is pretty far on the map, especially for a one day shoot. I think the idea is to attract as many locals as possible at this time.

I guess what I am trying to say is I won't be making the San Angelo Matches this year. Next year is a different story.

have a good one, this week end I will be getting ready for the Nationals Format Unlimited at Seymore in two weeks. Or working.........jackie

Jackie,
I know it's a long way but I told Bill I would ask. Oh, and don't be working, be at Seymour-See you there.

St Louis has held a couple matches now and i think it has been going pretty well. I was only able to attend one of the shoots but i think there is another in October (I think) and i will try to go. Like i said, i think the numbers were pretty solid. Maybe George or Ron, or some other fellas from the St louis area can chime in. I really enjoy the score game myself, and i hope it sticks!! Lee

Jackie,
Well you know you've definetly got my vote on this one. I just wish some of the ranges in my area would have some VFS matches. So far I've seen nothing at Raton. I figure they'll consider it after it gets voted in permanetly. I just hope by them not participating in the trial run that it won't be a deal breaker. I may have to travel 400 miles just to prove some dedication on my part. At 5 bills (2-3 nights motel, gas, food, entry fees, reloading components) per registered match, it does get very expensive for me to shoot over 6 registered matches per year.

Michael

I wonder how they will determine whether it is a permanent event? I guess they will look at the results/turnout and vote on it. Will it be the membership voting or the NBRSA board?
Best,
Dan Batko

So far this year the only score matches I have shot are the Tomball club matches and one registered match at Austin. I would have loved to be at San Angelo tomorrow but have family here for the weekend. I will get in some more shoots before the end of the year. The format is enjoyable.
