Hi friend bought a new Rem 700 SPS bolt sounds like its in gravel when cycling, should I put some type of grinding compound, and try and work smooth ????

you might consider looking for the actual problem before introducing slop on both the reciever and the bolt.
just a thought....
they do make a tool for polishing the race way

new new

If it is new call Remington they will make arrangements for repair

The several we've had in the shop lately look like the bead blast media was pea gravel. Certainly made for a Not smooth bolt. Remington quality has slipped a lot lately, as has Bushmaster's with the Freedom Group.

if you have a micrometer check both ends of the bolt it should bee between 697 and .699 I have one that is less and it seams to ride on the jeweling feels like a file

My experience in manufacturing over many, many years in different companies, has never seen the craftsman's work go straight out the door, thus the company's reputation resting on his work. All work is inspected for meeting specs. Kids, geezers or women have no influence in that type system.
So, have specs changed ????? By whom? Why?

IMO no specs haven't changed.......... guns are made better, shoot better and are more consistent now than they've ever been.

They're also CHEAPER as in lower priced than ever before with low-end models (often the 'rough' ones) being less than half the price of those favored guns of yore.

Grampa's generation worked a week or more for a decent pair of boots. My generation doesn't, and the boots are better. ")

there are a number of posts of people who received 700s with unfinished lands reputable gunsmiths I found my problem there was an unfinished ridge in front of the trigger notch rubbed the underside of the bolt scratched it if he looks for rub marks on the bolt should be able to identify the offending item maybe scope screws plugs missed milling
