Sightron BR Scopes?

Are they any good? Is the extra the $$ to go with the Big Sky model opposed to the standard SII? I was thinking about going with the Big Sky 24 or 36x for on top of a specialty pistol beacause of the longer eye relief.

A number of shooters spoke highly of the early 36 Sightrons. Personally I have not heard the newer ones praised as much.
However I do not recall many complaints either.

I have both the SII and the Big Sky 36's. The Big Sky series optics are slightly better to my eyes. Allan Orr at Sightron has said the mechanical system in the Big Sky models is a bit more robust than the standard SII's. The SII's do have a locking objective ring where the Big Sky series doesn't.

Hard to go wrong with either. In a hand cannon, opting the most solid internals makes sense....but so does the SII's locking a.o. -Al

I own 3 of the SII's and none of them are for sale:D

Thanks for the honest report on the Sightrons! Come to think about it, I rarely see them for sale used anywhere.

I have a 24 NIB that I have been considering selling, if you are interested

i have a couple of the big sky scopes and i think they offer a great value if bought used. I think i paid around 350 for one of them and 300 for the other. I find that they are very user friendly and setting parralax is much easier for me with these scopes compared to my two Leupold 36x scopes. I like them. Actually i like them alot!! Lee

Sightron

A number of years ago when they came out, everybody raved about how "bright" they were. They were bright, but the resolution was pretty poor.

Shooters stuck nylon screws in them to stabilize the erector tube, I took several apart, typical Oriental design, ball and socket erector tube mount. The front Objective shared the same design as a Weaver, B&L, Tasco, etc. The big difference was the reticle mounts directly on the erector tube assy.

In short, there is nothing remarkable, or unremarkable about them, just a typical lower cost, ($400 range), BR Scope........jackie

I sent mine (II) back to the factory for repairs in Nov or Dec. Still dont have it back or a report on it yet.
Finally gave up and bought a 45x Leupold last week. Love it.
