Gary Bristow wins Two Gun at Seymour,Tx. Mike Conry shoots a possible 100yd UL 10 shot record.
On July 16/17,The Seymour,Tx Range, hosted the Gulf Coast Regions,Ul,100/200 yd.and HV 200/100. Hosts, John Horn and Scott Hunter did an an outstanding job in the scorching Texas Heat. It was so hot, I saw a Dog chasing a Cat and they were both walking.(Smile) So You can imagine what the heat did to some of us senior citizen benchrest Shooters.
I had Breakfast with Cecil Tucker,Brad Calhoun and Gary Bristow. Cecil shared a story that should be of interest to all new shooters. Cecil has been around a long time. He’s the Guy that modifies some of the competition scopes, with his version of a stabilizer.
In 2004 The NBRSA nationals was held at Midland,Tx. Cecil lives in close proximity to the Range,by West Texas standards. During the two week period, before the start of the nationals, he said that he was at the range every day practicing. The Midland Range is known for its sometimes tough conditions. At the end of the two week practice session at Midland, Cecil stated he was familiar with how each condition would affect target POI.
The practice paid off. Cecil Tucker almost won that Nationals event.
His advice to Gary was that there is no substitute for practice. Some advice that many of us could use.
Dr Larry Lyford wore two hats at the match,he was the Range Officer and he cooked breakfast and lunch at the Range. Dr Lyford is a dang good cook and The food was free. Good thing we kept this secret from the local homeless population. It don’t get no better than this folks. Dr Lyford’s Daughter Abby worked inside the air conditioned office, helping score targets.
We had Dinner at our favorite Steak restaurant, the only one in Town, The “Rusty Spur.” The cooks at this place know how to grill steaks. I ran into a guy at the Rusty Spur that I knew from Dallas,Tx. I asked him how he found Seymour,Tx. He relayed that he and wife drives 170 miles from Dallas,Tx, on a regular basis , just for the Steaks, At the Rusty Spur.
Who is this Young man Gary Bristow? He is a relatively new shooter to the Sport. He is putting in the time and energy it takes to develop the necessary skills it takes to win at this Sport. No different from any other Sport. He is rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with in BR competition.
Gary fought off the, seven years in a row, champion Mike Conry.
Mike didn’t go down easy. He layed down a blistering 10 shot unlimited .1846 agg to start things of at 100yds(submitted for possible record)
In 10 to 25mph switchy winds. Gary stayed hot on the heels of the Champ and pulled off the win.

There was some fantastic shooting in some windy, tricky condition. Thanks to all who came out and supported this fun Sport. Enough can’t be said about the job that John Horn and Scott Hunter are doing to make the Seymour shoot, one of the best,if not the best in the Gulf Coast Region.
