scope adjustment on gusty days

This spring, during score competitions, it has been windy/gusty. I am wondering where you click your scope to on gusty days? For example - do you zero on for the let up and hold off in a push if needed - or go 1/2 way between the two? Obviously, you want the most common/repeatable condition, but what do you do on gusty days where it is tough to find that condition? Thanks in advance.

Stanley, It's a tough call. But, what I try to do is keep the Rifle sighted dead on in a 'neutral' condition, (or let up), then hold, (or try to), for the push, if forced to shoot in it.

In the old days, when we just had to worry about shooting "tens", life wasn't so tough. Now, trying to hit that darned dot every time means you can't compromise on the sight in. You have to be confident.

Of course, sometimes it can be frustrating. Holding two lines into a push can be hard on the nerves, not to mention score.

Score is just like group in that as the conditions get tougher, the overall X count goes down, just as the groups get bigger..............jackie

Stanley,
At the risk of being banished by "The Mentor" , I will not click much in those gusty conditions. If anything, click out the vertical only no more than 1-2 clicks. I will hold dot to dot on the sighter in what ever choice of conditions is occuring, provided the gusts are bellow 20 -25 at 300 yards to prevent a fall out into the #1 target somewere, and see what has the least effect. Then tighten up the chin strap and hold . I will frequent the sighter as the match goes on if the wind drops off or switches. This past weekend we had 2 choices, freakin' hurricane from 11:00 or a gentle gail at 2-3:00 . I was sure of the 2 holds after 3 matches, I put the scope on the 11:00 10ring line, oops, dead flags from 50-75 yards and looky there a 9 just a width of a line distance into the 9 ring as everything slowed down and backed up to the left. Same condition on match 5 shot that same hold again / all flags checked twice / and switched to a 5:00 hold just on the 10 ring for the 2:00 for a 50-4x. I like shooting in wind, we all struggle, some less than others and no matter how good we get, we all will over hold and our gun will put it right were we point it. I'd rather be humbled with a dropped point and learn from it than loose a point because I lacked confidence enough to hold for a condition I knew was going to move the poi . I am still fairly new to the game, but have tried clicking and I get lost in a hurry and cant tell if its my memory or something else causing the dropped points. In a switch I will hold, steady direction gusty click into it and stay close to the sighter if it drops off. Watch your last record shot and let it tell you what is going on, like a sighter. Just my thoughts on clicking.

Jason,
I for one always try to have a true Zero for the range I am shooting. This doesn't always happen but that is what I try for. If you happen to get caught in a complete reversal of conditions having windage clicked in can be a disaster, it is just too much for my feeble mind.
