Savage Target Rifle....Great Shooter

I don't know how many looked at the results of our final Club Match at Tomball last Sunday, but a shooter named Faron Frederick showed up with a bone stock Savage in 308, and shot a 248 10x. The two points he dropped just barely missed the 10 ring. In fact, he out shot all of the Modified Rifles, and 2/3 of the Benchrest Class Rifles

This has got to be just about the best shooting out of the box Factory Rifle I have seen. Anybody contemplating purchacing a Factory Rifle for target work should certainly consider one of these.

I think he was shooting 135 grn Bergers on top of a good dose of 4895........jackie
 
Was it one of the new model 12 F class rifles, or one of the 10FP models? I had a 10FP once and it was a real shooter.

I've always been a M70/M700 fan, untill a couple of years ago. I have a savage M10 with the cheap plastic stock that shoots unblieveable. Been keeping my eye out for a savage target rifle in 6br.
 
2008 groundhog shoot in PA

Savage rifles placed 1&2 I believe and took 5 of the top 8 places. They must be doing something right. Bill Calfee also did a little write up in PS about a savage rifle in 308. I think it was oct or nov of 2007

A few shooters in my local score matches shoot Savage rifles. One in 223 and one in 22-250. Both rifles are fine shooters.

In the last few years Savage has really been listening to and watching the competitive shooting sports and giving the customer what they want in accuracy terms. The improved triggers, stocks, and even the finish of their rifles have improved more than any other manufacturer I can think of. Sure, other manufacturers make improvements (mostly for looks), but none have concentrated their improvements targeted toward accuracy more than Savage has. And...their sales figures show it.

Who ever is their CEO deserves a lot of credit for bringing Savage back to the fore front...and not by making them prettier, but by improving accuracy plus useful features. Just goes to show, even in today's BS world, if you make a better product at a reasonable price, people will buy it.

I have a factory issue Savage Model 12 in 22-250.

It is surprisingly accurate.

Cost-wise, these rifles also do not break the bank. They are affordable.

Not everyone likes the so-called Accu-Trigger, but I like it.
 
savage f/tr .308

Hello, I recently bought the savage f/tr in .308, and so far it is showing real promise.
While I am early in testing, and I'm using a standard neck sizer & seater, and Federal cases, it's still shot a couple groups less than 1/2" at 200 yards.
I am as Jackie mentioned using a stiff imr-4895 charge but I'm so far using the 125 Bergers, as noted with good success in early testing. I plan to try the 118 Bib's soon, it's a 12" twist barrell, and I'm pleased that I can get both these bullets in the lands with some bullet still in the necks.
Comp target accuetrigger adjusts down real light & nice, I's saying for a stock-class rifle, it's all real well done.
