savage target actions

Midway Clearance

The target actions are know gone from clearance. Midway had some standard SS actions on clearance this week. Choose the "clearance button" on the right of their home page. The on the left go down to "gun parts". Then you can choose "action". They had 4 different Savage actions on clearance this morning. 2 Blue and 2 SS. Standard Short actions I think, but only around $325 if memory serves me. They only have a 1 or 2 and when those sell the rest are regular price.

Jim at Northland Shooter Supply will sell you a new action. I think he stocks them all. He gets $444 delivered for the target action and has them all in stock. Give advertises on www.savageshooters.com I think you can see this link without being a member. Not 100% http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php?board=64.0

If not, contact Jim by email at briggs.j-b@Q.com or ph: 763/682-4296. jim is a great guy to deal with.

Luck on your build.

Thanks for all the info Tiny! Oh btw had tons of fun shooting my Kimber Government Model 82 yesterday on my range. I know it's just a .22 but it's a really nice shooting rifle. We had a rare (very rare) calm day and I had no problem hitting a NRA hanging steel chicken silhouette target (made by Champion) at 100 yards almost every time off my bench. Not bad considering I shoot Blazer ammo from CCI (I picked it up real cheap last year for $8.99/brick). Got the rifle from the CMP program and mounted a 2.5-10X tactical mil-dot scope made by FM on it. The scope is really nice for a Chinese product too. It has side parallax focus adjustment with a built in sunshade and nice clear optics. The Government Model 82's are mil-spec rifles that were built by Kimber on a military contract back in the 80's. I got the trigger adjusted at just about exactly 1 lb and it's nice and crisp too. Enough of my rambling though.

Wow that is a very reasonable price on those Tiny. In fact it is less than 10% mark-up really. Does he sell any good stocks that cheap too? I need to get rolling on this project soon. The stock market has been such a big headache lately and a major diversion for me. Then my old buddy Boy, my lab of 15 years, suffered a bad stroke and I had to put him down a week ago . But God was smiling on me and my neighbor to the south 1 mile gave me their beautiful Husky the very next day. He had been coming over here a lot and they got tired of coming to get him I guess. I know it's off topic but I need to vent a little I guess.

Just had to put down my black lab not to long ago. I know how you feel.

As far as the go/no go guages go I never use them anymore.
Whatever cartridge you choose simply FL size the shoulders to The smallest dimension. Quality brass is usually close enough out of the box. Remchester needs the full monty.

Headspace your Savage tube to a slight crush fit off of that. Yes it takes a bit of getting used to to get it just right for the beginner.

If you use econo brass you may not be able to chamber factory ammo. This may or may not be a consideration for you.
Case growth and wear sure seems to be curtailed by using this method.

While I have the guages I no longer use them. Since I've used this method learned here on this forum I've realized the benefits.

If I change lots of brass in a particular barrel I'll reheadspace off the new brass. Its worth the extra work IMO.

Jo:
Sorry to hear about your pup man. Was your lab real protective? Mine had the neighbors terrified for years. But I do think I will break down and buy the go/no-go gauges myself. I learned a long time ago that it ain't worth getting hurt just because you are so tight you squeek. Besides I like tools and you can always make more money but you can't grow new eyes. Take it easy.
