Hi I am looking at the Savage Model 12 BVSS in .308 and the Model 12 Varminter Low Profile in .243. I would appreciate if anyone has any experience with either gun or any comments or recommendations on the two different stocks and calibers. Basically the action is the same for each gun only the stocks are different. I kinda like the BVSS stock but you cannot get it chambered in .243. Savage said I might be able to special order it in .243 but I have to talk the person there who can tell me more about the special order process. Is the .243 better than the .308 or visa versa? Any comments greatly appreciated. Thank you

Steve

My brother has the BVSS in .223 and I can say it is without a doubt the most accurate out of the box rifle I have had the pleasure of shooting. Have shot many 5 shot groups in the .2's with this gun.

Since this is a accuracy mined web site, I would say go with the 308. Most of the Savage 12's in 308 shoot phenominolly well. They just might be the most accurate out of the box mass produced Rifle made.

Not that a .243 will not shoot well. But unless you are going to be hunting live varmints with it, I say go with the 308.......jackie

Oh, and you never know when you might want to go to a match that has a Factory Score Class. Those Savages really shine in that.

Yes to Jackies comments..!

Steve, I'll bet you'll like the VLP stock... It's clean and does handle well in a wide range of shooting. Works very well of typical front rest and rear bag off a benchrest or prone on the ground.

I have a model 12 low profile in 243. It will shoot a group 5 shots that you can almost cover with a cigarette butt.

Funny this thread came up......

I have a buddy that wants to get into shooting and he wants a .308.

So, yesterday we decided that he NEEDS the Savage Model 10 VLP in .308.

We checked all the local gunshops, but no luck.

Now, does anyone know where we could find one at a good price?

Savage Model 12 BVSS .204

Hi does anyone have any comments on the Savage model 12 BVSS in .204?
I read that the .204 is very accurate how would it compare to the .223?
I currently own a Savage model 10 FP .223 with a 20" heavy barrel and it is very accurate at 100 yards. I mostly shoot at 100 yards and I am looking at buying a model 12 BVSS but I am trying to decide on the caliber. A .308 might be over kill if I am just shooting at 100 yards that is what I was told by some fellow shooters. Any comments or suggustions greatly appreciated. Thank you

I have a savage mod 12 vlp 22-250, that is very accurate. I like the stock and the feel of the vlp. I have had this one since they first came out with the vlp.

i have 2 lrpvs--a 22-250 which i've had for 2 yrs..once i learned what it liked to shoot..it shoots 5 shot bug holes @ 100m..baised on that experience..i just bought one in 6mmbr..still watring for some loading componments to start shooting it..i expect it to be the same as the other one.i'm looking at a fp 10 lh 308..has the new accura stock & a muzzle break..my friend has an older 10 in 223 that another tack driver

Bvss vs Vlp stock

Hi, I can say that the BVSS stock Is to my liking also. I have a 6BR that was just put together useing the VLP stock. I have not yet fired it, but I do think that it is going to work out OK. If you cannot get the BVSS stock, get the VLP and then try to trade with someone for the BVSS. If you check at Midway USA, I believe that they sell the BVSS stock for around 200.00.
I shoot both the 308 and the 243 , and like them both. My 308 is a Rem. 40X, and the 243 is on a Rem ADL action in a Choate varm. stock. Both cal. are very, very acurate. You might just get more brl. life out of the 308. Both cal. are excellent choices, but it's up to you and your liking and what each one is going to be used for. You can hunt or you can shoot targets with both.In my eyes, either choice is a good one.
