Savage Bolt Lift

Does anyone have experience with Savage bolt lift kits - whether homemade or manufactured?

I presume that you're suffering stiff bolt lift with a Savage bolt action. In an article last year in Precision Shooting there was an explanation on how to shorten firing pin travel on Savage bolt rifles that I performed on both of mine that reduced bolt lift considerably without no evil effects on firing primers that I can tell. It's simple (if you follow the directions and can disassemble a Savage 10/110 bolt) and relatively easy. Cheap too since nothing has to be purchased.

The bolt lift kit is a simple thing to do, and it will help a slight bit. The bolt lift kit is a piece of 38 special brass, cut down with a ball bering glud into the primer hole. You will need to shorten the back action screw the same thickness as the rim of the brass, and bering to place things back into preportion. Changing bolt handles will help with bolt lift also. The ulitimate bolt lift reduction is done by sending the action off to Sharp Shooters Supply for a time and true job. They will correct the timing of the action, true the action up strait, and do some other sutle tricks, and you will end up with a action that will have the bolt lift that is compairable to a custom actin like a Bat. You may also want to check out www.savageshooters.com and look through the pages, this topic has been covered a few times.

I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who has responded. Some have sent private messages. Others have emailed interesting information. I also have some snail mail on the way. Wilbur has greatly benefitted us with Benchrest Central.
