It seems that RWS have come up trumps for the UK22br team at their latest 4 national match at PortisheadGC Bristol.

They ended up winning 24 gold and silver meadals over the comp.

It seems that Eley have a challenge on their hands and in their domestic market place to boot.:D

I sure hope so !! If they keep uping the price they are bound to knock themselfs out of the market. I hope some other ammo dealer does the same thing to them. garrisone.

If Eley's pricing problem wasn't enough, so is their distribution. I've been told that their sales force has been diminished, but worse than that-I feel they are holding back the good ammo for the Olymics and the Chinese. Try and find Black box in the 1050's velocity on the 4 machine. Sure you can get Tenex at 1050 but it's plain crap when you compare it to Black box from '06 and '08. I've decided that is time for a change in my choice of ammo and some RWS R-50 is looking mighty good. Does anyone know if their velocities vary or are like Lapua with a "fixed" velocity which was 1069 or 1089 fps ?

Eley have squeezed the market for years. A minimum 6% annual price increase has been their policy for as long as I can remember. They had the market position to do it.
What is known is that they have supplied the Chinese with millions of rounds of Tenex. With out a doubt they will have creamed off the best production for the olympic shooters. After all it is their largest market. I'm sure that Lapua, S&B and RWS are doing excatly the same.

The rest of us non olympic shooters will just have to go whistle until after the closing ceremony. Of cause there will still be the back log of crap sitting on the wholesalers
shelves that will have to be shot before the new lots get shipped of course. So the aggravation isn't over.

This is really interesting. I was at regional competition this past weekend and I was the only person shooting Federal Ultramatch, which as I understand it is now made by RWS. I managed to take 2nd place in Unlimited. Everyone else was shooting Eley Blue or Black box or Tenex. I'm going to have to try some RWS now...

You did try some RWS...your Fed ultramatch. The 922A is also RWS.

Yes I understand its made by RWS, but are the specs the same between 922A, Federal Ultramatch and RWS R-50?

That is a good question that we probably won't get a answer to from Federal or RWS. I have no R50 on had to compare to 922A or Ultramatch so I don't know. I do know the 922A shoots well in my Rem 37 and WIn 52. Some old UM 1 Federal made in the 1990's shoots even better. I probably am going to try some R50 soon. --Greg

I am (was) an Eley shooter. I got a box of RSW R50. My Hall sporter has shot at least 20+ lots of Eley and never shot above 242- bad for a $4000+ rifle. I shot the RWS with it on a 30 bull practice target under the usual Gateway conditions today and shot 26 bulls or X's and 4 9's. I shot a second target with my Anschutz 54 with the exact same results 26 and 4 with no change in scope adjustment. The only thing I noted was a variable head space but it didn't seem to matter. If this stuff shoots in my Turbo, I'll be overjoyed and poor.

Looks to me like there may be some alternatives to Eley in the not too distant future; about time, eh?

The jig is now most definately up where Eley are concerned. They have had their hand in the back pockets of shooters for too long IMO.

Like many others, I also am getting fed up with Eley. This spring I bought a couple bricks of RWS Subsonic. I am shooting a Rem. 37 with a Border barrell. I am very pleased with the results so far. It is equal to or better than the Eley I was shooting. I plan on shooting the RWS for this summer. I'm glad others have been shooting this ammo. So far it looks good.

I'm glad its all working out for you. There are a great many who have found the same solution.
