River Bend Gun Club's 2017 Centerfire Benchrest Matches -- Schedule

See schedule attached; also, see www.rbgc.org for more information (including directions).

Per Jim Andress, "RBGC matches are open to the public. Matches typically begin at 9:00AM, so arrive early. Cost for non-registered matches is typically $20. RV parking is available."

At some matches, Jim pays money to the winners -- so, don't risk leaving money on the table by not being there. :D

Jan '17 Match Results

We had ten shooters at the 100/200 yard group, club match at River Bend today, including Mark Roper who, as far as I know, made his first appearance at a RBGC "club" shoot, and long-absent Steve Sanford. The in-the-shade temperature was about 52° when we started shooting and about 70° when we finished; it was a NICE day.

Jim Andress paid money to the winner of each match. Mark Roper shot the small group in three of the ten matches; the other small-group shooters were: Jim Andress (2), Roger Avery (2), Charlie Hood (2), and Scott Dittman (1). Mark had the small group at 100 yds with a .131; Charlie had the small group at 200 yds with a .224.

Scott Dittman won the 100 yard agg with a .2930; Roger Avery won the 200 yard agg with a .2431, and he won the grand agg with a .2923 -- beating Jim Andress by .0075 in the grand. I assume Roger took home the most money for having won the grand agg.

We're shooting score next month on the second Saturday -- come shoot with us.
 
Feb '17 Match Results

We had 14 shooters at the 100/200 yard UBR score match at River Bend today, including three new-to-River Bend shooters: Bob Baker (who came over from AL with Rick Fox from Nashville), Fred Niemiroff, and Jeff Tirpak; also, long-absent Ben Foster joined us. The in-the-shade temperature was about 43° when we started shooting and about 58° when we finished; the wind was negligible.

Dave Rabin and Charlie Hood, both shooting in the custom class, tied for the high score in the 100 yard agg with a 260; Bob Baker, shooting in the unlimited class with an "overweight" bag gun, had the high score in the 200 yd agg with a 257 (that included one target with a perfect score), and he had the high score for the grand agg with a 516 -- nine points ahead of the next closest score. I assume Bob took home a wad of money for having been the "Top Gun."

It was a nice day!

March '17 Registered Match

We had 28 shooters yesterday, including Elaine and Troy Lockhart from TN, Joe Scarborough from Elberton, and River Bend-member Joel Danzig -- all of whom were shooting their first NBRSA registered match. Matt Owens, from AR, probably gets the award for having come from farthest away. Roger Avery was there earlier in the week but had to leave when he got word that his mom died -- condolences to Roger.

The weather was chilly; it was about 35 when we started shooting and didn't get much above 57 later. As usual, Charlie and Cheryl Hood prepared a BBQ lunch for everyone.

A note about the 100 yd HV Small Group - Charlie Hood shot a .029 with a .30BR; however, the match director disagreed with that score -- nevertheless, Steve Lee is going to submit it for a possible world record.

Sunday update -- We had 25 shooters today. The weather was damp and very chilly; it was about 39 when we started shooting and barely made it to 45 by the time we quit. Again, Charlie and Cheryl Hood prepared a BBQ lunch for everyone.

Apr '17 Match Results

Today, we had the best club match EVER -- thanks to Phyliss Avery and MiJa Hill who provided lunch for us. Phyliss brought a chicken and sausage casserole, and MiJa brought BBQ. Thanks to both of you. The bar has been raised for club shoots!

Now for the shooting report. We had 12 shooters at the 100/200 yard UBR score match today, including new-to-River Bend-club-shoots shooters Steve Hill from SC and Kate Dittman (Scott's daughter), and long-absent Miles and Chris Gibby. The temperature in the shade was about 41° when we started shooting and about 66° when we finished.

In the 100 yd agg., Joel Danzig, shooting in custom class with one of Lester Bruno's guns, won with a 257; Roger Avery and Dave Rabin tied for second with a 256.

In the 200 yd agg., Joel and Miles Gibby tied for first with a 242.

Joel won the grand agg with a 499 (and I assume took home the most money); Dave Rabin finished second with a 496.

Kate Dittman won both yardages and the grand agg in factory class with a very nice 479 -- and no, she was not the only shooter in factory class.

It was a nice day!

May '17 Match Report

We had 14 shooters at the 100/200 yard group, club match at River Bend today, including Jim Harris who was shooting his first benchrest match, long-absent Jack Perry and Tom Suswal, and Bill Dittman's granddaughter Kate, who shot with us last month. Wilbur was there also; however, he didn't shoot because he got there late. The temperature in the shade was about 67° when we started shooting and about 73° when we finished; it was a nice day with just a little light rain.

Greg Ellis was "hot" today; he won five of the matches. The other match winners were: Dave Rabin (3), Joel Danig (1), and Scott Dittman (1). Greg had the small group at 100 yards (.114), and the small group at 200 yards (.238). Dave won the 100 yard agg. with a .1888; Greg won the 200 yard agg. with a .2010, and he won the grand agg. with a .2032 -- beating Dave by .0027. I assume Greg took home the most money for having won the grand agg.

In factory class, Dan McEvoy won the 100 yard agg. with a .4378; Kate Dittman won the 200 yard agg. with a .4769, and she won the grand agg. with a .5175.

Charlie Hood shot well in the first three matches then had a nasty spell of light-headedness; Phyliss Avery did a nice Florence Nightingale impersonation as she supervised Charlie's situation until the paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital for tests. Jim Andress went with Charlie and the paramedics to the hospital, and Jim returned before the match was over with good news that Charlie was doing okay and would probably be released tomorrow.

Phyliss provided lunch for us -- Sloppy Joes, huge hot dogs (Nathan's?), cole slaw, and brownies.

Folks, if y'all are avoiding River Bend's one-day club shoots because they're "just a club shoot," you don't know what you're missing. Over the past year, shooters at those one-day shoots have included: (a) some SER HOF shooters; (b) several shooters trying benchrest for the first time; (c) shooters from AL, FL, IN, SC, and TN; (d) husband & wife shooters; and (e) three generations of Dittmans. Many of them have enjoyed delicious food provided by the wives of other shooters, and some of them have won money. So, why don’t you plan to shoot one of the one-day shoots at River Bend – you’ll be glad you did, and you might take home some money. See post 1 above for information on these unbelievable shoots, and come shoot with us.

Jun '17 Match Report

The club matches at River Bend keep getting better and better -- thanks to the chef(s). Today's chef was Phyliss Avery (again) and she served BBQ chicken and various sides and desserts -- gratis to the shooters. Thank you, Phyliss!

Now for the shooting report, word about the good, free food must be leaking out, since we had more shooters today (19) than we've had in several years, including several new-to-RB-club-shoots shooters: Dan Honert (who drove down from TN may have gotten the award for coming from the farthest away), Tom Martinelli (who was in the Army with Bart and Billy), Allen Wofford, and Bob Krajczar. Also, Charlie Hood was back -- and he stayed upright all day today. The temperature in the shade was about 68° when we started shooting and about 84° when we finished.

In the 100 yd agg., Bill Dittman won with a perfect score of 264 -- that's a record for UBR at River Bend. Charlie Hood was second with a 262.

In the 200 yd agg., Roger Avery won with a 249 and Joel Danzig was second with a 246.

Roger won the grand agg with a 510 (and I assume took home the most money); Bill Dittman finished second with a 508.

Thanks to Jim Andress for running the match, and Scott Dittman for scoring, and Wayne Hunt for helping with the targets, and to all the shooters for being there. It was a nice day!

Damn fine shooting from Bill Dittman. That's only the 2nd perfect score shot in UBR in 7 years. Congrats on the fine turnout. Wish I could have been there.

Congrats Roger and Bill. Some very, very fine shooting, indeed. Glad to hear the matches are going well down there!
 
July '17 Match Report

Well, it seems like lunch is getting to be the best part of the River Bend monthly club matches. Wilbur (yes, the ole cook and bottle washer here on the forum drove down from TN) brought to-die-for BBQ (he had smoked two pork butts for about 13 hours), buns, soft drinks, cake, condiments and utensils. Also, thanks to Phyllis Avery, Dee Griffith and Cheryl Hood for the home-cooked baked beans, slaw, chips, and pasta salad – and the help in putting everything together. Keith Gantt came also – to supervise Wilbur. :eek:Thanks to each of you!

We had 14 shooters today, including Alan Wofford who came back from last month (when he was a first-time shooter at the RB club shoots), and Tim Singleton who drove down from NC for his first monthly club match at RB. The temperature in the shade was about 75° when we started shooting and about 84° when we finished.

Charlie Hood and Scott Dittman each won two of the matches; the other match winners were: Roger Avery (1), Joe Bougard (1), Joel Danzig (1), Dave Rabin (1), Tim Singleton (1), and Tom Suswal (1). Joe had the small group at 100 yards (.122); however, Charlie won the 100 yard agg. with a .1980. Dave had the small group at 200 yards (.277); however Roger won the 200 yard agg. with a .2856 – and he won the grand agg. with a .2665 -- beating Tim by .0223. I assume Roger took home the most money for having won the grand agg.

In factory class, Hal Barnes won the 100 yard agg. with a .4204, and the 200 yard agg. with a .6452, and the grand agg. with a .5328.

Aug '17 Match Report

We had 10 shooters at the 100/200 yard UBR score match today; however, we would have had more except that Roger Avery (who had brought his camper to the range) had to leave for the hospital to help his daughter usher a new grandbaby into the world, Scott Dittman had to leave to help with an "emergency" at home, and Jim Andress chose not to shoot. The temperature in the shade was about 76° when we started shooting and about 85° when we finished.

In the 100 yd agg., relatively-new-to-RB-matches Joel Danzig won with a 262, and Alan Wofford (back for his third shoot at River Bend) and Tom Suswal tied for second with a 260.

In the 200 yd agg., Alan won with a 255, and Tom and Bill Dittman tied for second with a 243.

Alan won the grand agg with a 515 (and I assume took home the most money), and Joel finished second with a 504.

Dave Rabin won factory class with a 472 -- helped by Wayne Hunt's "misfire" on one target at 200 yds .

Thanks to Jim Andress for running the match (i.e., scoring and being the range boss), Wayne Hunt for helping with the targets, and to all the shooters for being there. It was a nice day!
