My name is Keith, I'm from NE WI and haven't visited this site in a while. I am writing this for a friend who'd Dad passed about a year ago. In his dad's collection is a 6PPC Bench Rifle that he has no interest in shooting and would like to sell. I tried to find a value for him on all the normal sites but am coming up empty. The Gun is a sleeved Remington XP-100 action, 6PPC. It has a 20 inch Stainless BBL, .262 neck and weighs 10 lbs,14 oz. It is glued into a fiberglass stock and the forearm is 2&7/8 inches wide. BBL is free Floated. We do know the gun was gunsmithed by Dan Dowling. We have no idea as to round count.
Can anyone give us an approximate value or ballpark figure for this rifle, the family will appreciate any help.

You might call Dan and ask him. Dan is a great guy to deal with. Smithed most of my stuff.

Dan Dowling

Back in the day Dan built me 2 rifles as well, a 17 Rem on a Sako action and a 6BR on an XP-100 in pistol configuration. Both shot great and I still have both. I especially like the "Twizzel" finish he did on the barrels, it seemed to be his signiture add-on. The rifle I am asking about also has this finish on the BBL.

Based on rifle sales here and on accurate shooter over the past few years, the rifle will probably bring $800-1000 depending on appearance and the eclectic desire of a potential buyer. A few months ago a seller in CA had a similar rifle for sale and didn't seem to be able to get $1000. It was very nice and he & I exchanged some messages. But he didn't care to ship out of CA. You might ask the seller to check and see if it has a Jewell trigger which would increase the value a bit. Classifieds here and Accurate shooter would both be good places to list. I would add that this kind of configuration is desirable for Ultimate Benchrest Competition in Modified Class and possible Unlimited depending on the weight.

Greyfox, thanks for the info. There seems to be a 2oz trigger in the rifle, not sure as to the MFG.

Probably a Jewell. If I can help with the sale, get in touch. UBR is very active in my region and a good rifle might sell. I have a private email list for UBR shooters that goes to about 100 folks. Also, our season is just beginning and we have a few new shooters in my local club. Pics would be a plus and a price. You can reach me at tnmountainaire@bellsouth.net

Might make a decent starter gun for someone just getting into BR.

I have not seen a sleeved action in a while though.

There are enough BR grade actions available now to start with.
