Removing case lube

The ultrasonic cleaning interests me, too. As I understand it, a fair investment is required for the equipment. I'll check out your link for more info. Thanks

I hope I did not mislead you. I do not use the ultrasonic after every firing. I do not clean the inside of my PPC and BR cases. I saw the article on the 6BR site and decided to try it out of curiosity. Most br shooters will tell you that it takes several firings to get the cases settled down and I certainly would not recommend keeping the inside of the case body clean, only the neck which can be accomplished with a bronze bore brush. Some folk use steel wool wrapped around a brush but I personally do not like to get steel wool anywhere close to my bores, also it takes a little brass off each time you use it and if you shoot tight necks pretty soon your brass does not fit.
I guess it is comparable to pipe smokers who say a pipe does not smoke well until the bowl gets "corroded". I smoked a pipe for a while in my younger days and that holds true, dont know that much about cases...

Zz ...

I am using water based RCBS lube that came with my Rock Chucker kit. If one does not use an expander ball during resizing process, how do you get the neck opened up to accept the bullet?

I also use the RCBS water based lube on a pad and really like it. You don't need much but ALWAYS LUBE WHEN SIZING! You might also try Redding Imperial Sizing Die Wax. Although I tend to use that more when lubing the outside of my cases during the fire forming process.

Do you have a custom no-neck-turn chamber? Do you have a tight neck/custom chamber where you have to neck turn the outside diameter of the neck to get the case to fit your chamber? Do you have a factory chamber?

If you have a factory chamber there is usually so much room in there that once you fire a round the case neck opens so much that even upon contracting it is so wide that a bullet can be dropped inside the case by letting gravity do its work. Hence, no need to expand.

After you've fired a round, and before full length sizing, see if a bullet will drop into your case. :)

abintx...
Nothing special abt my chamber. Just a Rem700 with abt 200 rounds thru it.
I'm just a beginner in the reloading game. Bought abt 120 rounds of matchking ammo. Shot that up, and now I'm reloading that brass.
So far I've reloaded a grand total of 80 rounds.

The way I currently understand it; the full length resizing die compresses the neck (along with the rest of the case) and the expander ball opens it back up just enough for the bullet to be pressed in. You had mentioned you didn't use an expander ball, so I assumed you used something else to open the neck up after resizing.

From your lastest reply, sounds like maybe your chamber is tight enough that you don't need to resize?

BTW, I'm in Aus too. Ever go out to Eagle Peak range?
