!&$#.... Remington arms...

But it's a good sales gimmick...........Ian
It's not the only "gimmick" sold by a far sight, either. When a customer asks me about fluting a barrel I tell them that it's a good way to spend $125 if that's their goal but it won't help anything. It's like putting big "rubies" or "emeralds" on your mud flaps----cosmetic.

While I do agree that most after market lugs are overkill, I have found Rem lugs that were a full .002 variation in thickness. This
of course can be corrected easily with a surface grinder. However, using a lug that rockwells at 3-4 sandwiched between
a 30 receiver and a 20 or so barrel is not an ideal thing, given 100ft lbs of torque. Just my opinion

I measured mine with a digital mike. My readings were very repeatable. Both were out 2-3 tenths. I think they can be thin enough to have some flex. Not sure at what point that is. I suspect that for a rifle that gets really beat around and dropped etc. a stronger lug can't hurt but I can't see any reason to use those 3/8"-1/2" ones!!

I'll have to agree with Sorensen and Coleman. I do have a surface grinder and touch them up. Bob, I have never seen a factory one messed up from barrel torque. Not saying it can't happen, just never seen it.

and the huge ones 3/8 of an inch thick are ridiculous...
