Recently bought a Rem. 700 in 6mm Remington and am trying to find out the year of manufacture. Went to the Rem site and couldn't get it to tell me what I wanted to know. The letters on the barrel are XLFG. Thanks.

Using XLFG - all I get with that site is an invalid code...

using xl - This firearm was manufactured in December of 1942 or 1964

using fg - Invalid month code entered 1938 or 1960

You can call Remington and they will tell you year of manufacture. It takes them around 30 seconds. I called on two just yesterday.

It has to be at least 1960s or later. The 700 didn't come out until then.
The first ones similar were the 721 722 series then the 700.
Best make sure of your codes too. B series i know were 70's
hope this helped some .

Remington Phone Number

blvedere,
Sorry for the slow response, the number I use is 1-800-243-9700 open M-F. The person that answers that line is the one that always answers my questions regarding years.

Thanks
Brandon

Brandon, appreciate your help. Thanks and Take Care,

Your 700 chambered in 6mm Rem is an ADL configuration?
Serial number prefix letter is a C or D ?
Does it have the ISS/J Lock firing pin/shroud or std pin/shroud configuration.
The trigger shoe is of solid configuration not the channel or hollow back as some reference.

XLFG barrel code stamping-
X-december month
L-1942/1964/1991 year of barrel manufacture-BINGO
FG is promotional stamping

8/9/99 Bbl codes were stamped on box end flap.
10/1/01 Bbl code stamping resumed.

all pretty confussing as the barrel code doesn't tell about the actions actual date of manufacture... as a barrels, triggers an bolts can be swapped in.. ' what of the action it self '.... ???
