Remington 40x for sale

I have several Remington 40x for sale. Our 4H Shooting Sports Club is looking to sell these and re-invest in some range improvements. The rifles are all very good and we have the appature sights (Olympic and Palma as I recall). What would be a good starting point on the price? Since our 4H Program owns them, I assume that it could be a tax deductable donation...

Put them on Gunbroker.com to get top dollar. Put them on one at a time so you don't end up competing against your own guns.

$800 minimum, heck, a receiver w/bolt is worth $600 by itself. Thanks, Douglas

I would be carefull

on the tax deductible part. Its not really a donation if you are buying something whose value is close to the donation amount.

Deductible amount

The deductable amount is the difference between the price paid at auction and the fair market price. (assuming the price paid is ABOVE the fair market price)

That's the way activities like auctions held at churches, etc. are handled. If the church auctions off a nice shotgun worth $1500 or so, and the winning bid is $1800, then the tax deductable portion is $300. I just recently learned this in conjunction with a church auction for a nice shotgun.

Remember it's for the children... I'll stay away from the finer legal points of Deductions (IANAL nor an accountant) but I have six (one is spoken for...) very nice 40x's that need new homes, where they will be cared for and loved. Anyone interested in stopping by Griffin GA to appraise and grade them? We made $2500.00 - $3300.00ea off the first two raffles, but it takes time and effort that the kids don't seem to be willing to do in this economy. We've even thought about chopping off the barrels and putting the barreled actions in a different stock, but by the time we do all that, we could buy an Anschutz 20XX... We're a 50 foot (50M coming when we raise a few more bucks) indoor Club, so we're not that worried about spending big bucks for club rifles.

Thoughts?

I think because if they were purchased from CMP it was with the understanding they were not for resale, but for the purchaser's use. At least that is what I've been told by some other shooters.

As I remember if the 40X rifles were part of a club purchase they had to be held for one year. If an individual purchase then they did not have a time period to be held. Also, If I remember correctly the first sales were restricted to CMP clubs and later sales were opened to individuals.

Would love to pick one up from you. Will give you a ring tomorrow.

are they 22 long rifles. heavy or standard barrel. can you please send pictures we tried calling you and left a message. were looking for 22s. thank you. you can also contact randy at 727-515-5515.

I bought a CMP heavy barrel w/ sights in 2004 for $350. It needed stock work and the blueing was worn.

I have worked with it, found a new stock that I Tru-oiled, put a Jewell trigger on it and scope. I know you didnt ask about all that stuff.

The value of yours would be $700-800 minimum, IMHO, depending on blue/stocks. I would sell mine for about twice that, maybe.
