Rem 700 Bolt Fixture

It looks like I'm on the right track. Light cuts with either firing pin hole or spider seems reasonable to me. I'll figure out the mandrel as I sacrifice this one a few times. I'll develop some kind of pivot or not.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I've learned a lot. Just ordered a .500 dia hardened mandrel from Dave Kiff for my next project. An action spider. Doesn't make much sense to not have the recess lugs, threads and action square now.
 
Not being a pro nor a machinist I find stock material to be costly, an inner tie rod end has a nice ball in the end. I too noticed when dialing in that a 700 bolt body isn't perfect, so for me, I prefer to use the ball over a sacrificial stud. I place the steady rest where the lugs run so I can true the face and the lugs. If the firing pin hole is getting bushed, its all good in one set up.
