Hello,
I've been looking at a used 40XBBR in 22BR. It has the green aramid stock and wears a 25x Leuppie. Anyone have any opinions on the 40X in this caliber. The last one I had in this model was a .222 and had a walnut stock; sold it to a friend of mine. He is very happy. Time to look for a replacement. ;)
I know a little of the 22BR and sounds like a good alternative to the 22/250 and shoots very well too....I think. your thoughts. Thanks.

The 22BR is a great chambering, very efficient. It will do anything a 22-250 will do, except when you get to the heavier bullets. But, anything in the 52-55 grn range, it will just about equal a 22-250.

Accuracy is as you would expect. Just this side of phenominol.

Is this a Factory Barrel? I am not sure if Rem ever offered the 40x in 22BR........JACKIE

I really like the.22BR.

I have had 2 made up and like both much better than any 22.250 i have owned, 5 or 6 at least. My first 22-250 was back in 1960 when it was a wildcat on a M98 action. Like jackie says the 22BR is very efficient and will do anything the 22-250 will do, especially for prairidogs. Maybe the fact that mine were done by Larry Engelbrecht had something to do with it. Remington may have offered a rifle chambered in .22BR but not a cartridge, not even the brass. My brass is all from 6BR. Max

Hi Guys,
It has the Rem. factory 24" stainless bbl in 22BR. on blued action. Going for bit under C$2500. incl. the scope, dies.
Not sure of the round count yet or how well it shoots presently; still acquring info. That was was my impression from what I have been reading re comparison to the 22/250. I have no hands on w. the 22BR, so relying on you good folks to add to that, thanks. ;) And the 22BR should be a lot wasier on the bbl too. Plans are for club BR shoots mostly under 200yds. I know it is not a 6ppc nor full blown BR rifle either, but looks to be a decent rig. :)

The 22BR is a great cartridge. I do have a question though. Do you have access to used full benchrest rigs? $2500 is kinda steep for a factory 40X. Are you able to shoot the gun before you buy?

I have a 40X and it is a great gun for a factory gun. I had to have it and paid too much for it - but there you are. Compared to a trued action/custom action rifle it is on the second team.

There is a full 6PPC BR rig built on a 40X listing for $1495 for instance that will support your efforts. A used custom action rig is a much better investment in terms of time and money and resale. I bought several guns on the way to a real BR rig and I only regret the time spent on trying to get them to shoot to the level I needed.

Russ, I think you may have summed it all up there! I think as a good varmint rifle and sem-competitive rifle at the club level it would be ok, but for more serious competition, it may not be the way to go. Agree with you

Thanks for your comments. :)
