Some quick questions if I may.

I have found an almost new 40x with what I am told is a Hart bbl cut to 30.06 with a 1/10 twist. Rifle appears to be exceedingly clean and is $1100. from gunsmith who modified it. Target that comes with the rifle shows about .4 5 shot/100 and I was told this was with factory box load, no load workup.

The bbl. shows proof marks which has me somewhat confused. I don't remember but I thought hart (and aftermarket) barrels did not have proof marks ???
Bbl appears to be about 24" stainless with about .800 at muzzle, straight taper. Not bedded and uses recoil lug.

What is your opinion on price, rechamber to something less speedy like a 308x1.5 (really anything with less grunt). Twist is 1/10 so is that compatible with 100-500 yard group shooting?

I will use this rifle purely for local range and occasional field use.

What do you all think?

The Rem Custom Shop could tell you exactly what the rifle was chambered in & by which 'smith by the suffix lettered serial number.
Bbl length of A 40XB will be 27 1/4"
Bbl length of a 40XC will be 24" but in a repeater configuration.

Yes,
the rifle was proof tested & stamped<REP> on RH side of Bbl a few inches fwd of receiver ring prior to being boxed up & shipped to a distributor.

That was my concern...the'smith said he installed a hart barrel but I can see proof marks which look like Remington's. Nice rifle but I believe this is a factory barrel in 30.06 which is not a chambering I want to shoot all day!

Anyway..... if someone wants a very clean 40x in 30.06 I'll pass the info along

$1100.
