Rearbag problems

Hi. I've bought an Edgewood minigator rearbag for BR-shooting:

I found that it's a little bit unsteady.
It wiggle from side to side.
I had it fillt up with heavy sand and it doesn't help.
My friend has the same problem and are going to sell the rearbag now.

Is this something to use:

I can't find some for the Edgewood?
Anyone have some tip-off, is it a "mainproblem" with Edgewood rearbags?:confused:
 
Why not contact Edgewood and see what they have to say? Mabe a bad set of bags got out, I would not sell till I spoke with them on the problem.

The True Kote really is more of a spacer. The Otto stablizer will form its shape to level and stabilize your bag. Despite that, unless your bench is not level/flat I don't know why you should have so much trouble with the Edgewood bag.

Rear Bags

I have always used a Do-Nut under my rear bag. (It's an old Bald Eagle that I bought used in 1997). The Do-Nut is the one sure way to keep it from rocking around.

I used a Otto for years, but needed a thicker one. Jay Lynn Gore made me a one inch thick one about five years ago. Works Great.........jackie
 
My Gatorbag had somewhat of a "U" shaped bottom which allowed it to rock from side to side. Unfortunately, there are no stabilizer bags or pads for the gatorbag so I had to cut out some leather strips and glue them around the edges. Works fine now.

I'd like to see thicker, stiffer, flatter bottoms on the Edgewood bags. This is one area where the newer Protektors are much better.

Many of my Benhrest-friends use the Protektor Rearbag and they are more stabil than my Edgewood.
I got the U shape bottom as you discribe.
I will try to make some leather stripes then and hopefully it will help.

I should contact Edgewood and see what they propose.
 
It's a problem inherent to bag design no matter how thick and solid the bottom plate. And filling them fuller just exacerbates it.

i think you need a donut.

I've got several brands of donuts including Dunrud's and three of Skip Otto's, but IMO the Tru-Kote high durometer spacer donut is Da' Schnizzle..... It does it ALL!

It's much more than "just a spacer" as close perusal of the picture will show. The top plate is hollow. And a little water or (???) will make it stick to the bench like a limpet.

I can't imagine a better solution to this problem than Davey Dohrmanns unique rubber pile.

May sound crude but smash it a few times on the bench prior to shooting.They do flex a bit.Before the minigater I had a simple protektor 13 screwed to a plywood bag and glued anti slip material on the bottom.This was rock solid but the ears for my present rifle have to be wider apart.So I ordered the edgewood.

I've got one of the newer Protektor bags (with the black and yellow leather) and it has a bottom that is about 1" thick and flat as a pancake. If I look real close at it, I can see where its a little hollowed out in the center like they wrapped the stiff leather around a donut. This bag's bottom is actually stiffer than the Tru Kote bottom! I know because my friend just bought a tru kote for his flimsy-bottomed bag and when we were comparing my bag to his setup at a match a few weeks ago, he loved the Protektor and ended up using it in the match. Come to think of it, I never got it back after the match!!:eek: I guess that's what you call an extended loan?:)

agreed, all true :)

I've got several old bags from the '80's that are so round and soft as to be almost unusable...... they need a real fat donut to cradle them, the Tru Kote spacer is insufficient alone. And the donut-bottomed bags are awesome.

But for a newer and fairly solid bottomed bag I feel the adjustable Tru Kote spacer/donut to be a real solution.
