Reamer holder

I've been using a floating reamer holder made by Dave Manson for many years and my PPC brass that's been fired in my chambers measure .4395-.440 at the web. I don't have enough sense to stop using this holder and have chambered up many winning barrels (not saying I shot them, of course ;) ) using this holder. It surely seems to work for me.

for short chambers with the bald eagle /kiff floating holder

lately i have been starting with a live center with the reamer holder on the reamer, once i am 1/3 of the way in i switch to the round tip and go to floating mode from there on in.the first few of the 6br chambers i have cut i did have a variance of .0005-.0015 larger [which was a problem one particluar case] but when i went to the the live /float technique they come out right around .0007 larger with hardly any variance . and i just felt better for the reamer to be supported at first which keeps the wedgys away for the real short chambers, with the long chambers even if i get a kind of loose at first entrance there is plenty of time for the reamer to tighten up as it goes in. tearing in to it fast on short chambers has caused me some grief due to sizing issues.but now i can pretty much hold a .0005-.0007 larger than the reamer on most all the short chambers if needed, at the end of the cut i will pull the reamer to the side very slightly when i am in headspace range to get the desired diameter or to match the last chamber done with the same reamer.this seems to have an effect of taking the lumps out of the chamber as well. good luck sirs. tim in tx

The piece of stock that I use to push the reamer is about the same diameter as the reamer, I sandwich the joint between my left index finger and thumb while chambering. This gives me a "feel" of what's going on. It might offer some insurance to have a cup where the alignment could not be out excessively. Chambering without pressurized coolant and having to withdraw the reamer so often it would seem to be a disadvantage to use any type of reamer holder.
