Real Dumb Question

Is it me or am I seeing more posts for ARA matchs? If yes, again another Dummy, why?

I guess at my age, over 75, I've earned the right to ask a few dumb questions.

There are No Dumb Questions!
The only Dumb Question is the One that is Not Asked.
In the Past the purpose of this forum was to ask a Rimfire Benchrest Question and hopefully get an answer that could help.
The idea was that there was a wealth of knowledge from experienced and respected shooters who visited and they would share this with old and new alike.
The shame of the matter it has become a ‘Girls Blog’ to post scores, promote a range, sell something or ask their neighbor what’s for dinner.
Net result has been that a lot of the best people in this sport no longer have an incentive to compete with the ‘Girls’.
Am I ‘flaming’ your post? Nope – just saying you hit the 'Nail on the Nail Head'.
And
THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS!
(except maybe BTT)

Hear...Hear Doug...

I agree 100%.. Several times in the past, I have complained about all of the Match info and scores being posted on this forum instead of being placed in the "Match Information and Results" forum, only to be flamed by several of the members, saying that more people view this forum than the "Match Information and Results" forum.. Could it be that it might change if that is where the matches and scores were posted..?? If the "Match Information and Results" forum is not going to be used for listing matches and scores, then, why is it listed..????

Doug, Are you saying that giving results and promoting a match has no place on the forum or is it just ARA you're refering to?

As I just posted match results this morning, I must assume you are talking about me. I post results just to break up the monotony and all the bs that I've read on this site lately. Sorry Wilbur, I don't usually get involved in this kind of bs. Anytime anyone thinks this a "girls" blog come on over to MO and see if you can do better than us. I'll be glad to post your scores, just don't bite off more than you can chew.
Joe

Consider this a Poll

I can ask that folks use the results forum and then move the match announcements, results, etc when posted. I really don't have a preference.

It's never easy....

Dont want to tell ya how to manage your forum as it has to be heck doing so, but maybe that is what is needed. Ask them all to post there and then when they post here you move the scores, after awhile they will either stop posting or get the hint and post where they should.

Just my $.02

Wilbur,
If it's not a Major Match what are we supposed to do?

I kinda like the results posted here it better than a cz question or a 10-22 thats not br thats plinking.Or would you all rather talk about tuner theories that have been beat to death a gazillion times????? Im up for anything but all this stuff is getting stale. How about a discussion on how to make this sport that we all love grow????? Jerry

I don't think posting match reports is near as boreing as 50 slaps on the back for someone who shot a good target. I don't think they detract at all and when I have gone to the "match results" forum, you get lost pretty quick in the CF matches that do post there regularly.

What difference does it make. The match results are posted, the congratulations are made, and the post moves quickly down the list to post oblivion. I think all the "girls" have always been here and need to do something to rid themselves of their delicate sensibilities.

I haven't shot with the boys up in St. Louis this year or any of the other places around that vicinity, but I can tell you that some of the very best shooters in the nation shoot up around that area. If you doubt me, go try to win there any month you care to pick. When you look at the top scores that Joe Besche posted earlier today I believe, the top 7 or 8 scores were exceptional. I don't know a lot, but I do believe the ARA target is tougher to shoot than most targets out there. We talked about this before on here. Trying to cut down another organization just to complain ain't doing the sport any good either. I personally can tell you that this 2008 ARA Nationals is going to be a very exciting place to be. I can't wait to see the scores. Good luck to all.

Who are you posting for

I found, that the only competitors that were interested in the scores shot at our matches, were those that were there. That why I started my own web site to post our scores and other interesting tid-bits. If anyone else wanted our results, all they had to do is go to our web site and there the were. This way it doesn't tie up Wilbur's band width, leaving more room for the other nonsence that goes on there.

I think most ARA shooters are interested to an extent. I look at your scores, and I think your format would be a good replacement for the ARA newsletter. Just put it on the web. The information on scores from other clubs are the fiber that holds these organzations together. ARA or not.

dumb question

SIR: there are no dumb questions just dumb answers. At your time of life you should have learned that by now. You have earned the right to ask any question you like. I can't say I have noticed any increase in questions about ARA. That being said-maybe more folks are looking for matches closer to home. The price of gas and ammo could have something to do with it also. Keep shooting the ten ring and enjoy your time.:D:p:)

Question for Fred J

From your post, I understand it's your opinion that it's O.K. for you to advertise your up-comming shoots; just not O.K. for anyone to post results.
Personally I appreciate posts of up-comming shoots and subsequent postings of the results.
Now let's get back to the serious stuff. You know like "Should I use round or square patches when cleaning my rifle? And Why?" (Now thats funny!! And well worth the band width)

Fred, with all due respect in regards to your Patch question, if you want to shoot 2400 or below use the square patches, if it needs to be 2400 or higher go with the round patches, I hope this helps you somewhat. :)

There are no dumb questions but maybe some dumb answers now and then like my post. :D

Take Care,
Joe

As for me, I like to see the match reports. I do like to keep up with my friends scores from around the country. Where else are you going to get them.
Jim

For those across the board (everyone),
Match reminders, match congrats, and match reports are probably most looked at by the numbers recently. If anyone has a problem with that then they can just COMPETE at a SANCTIONED match and really have some questions about equipment. Then you will be more in-tune with why this stuff is important. Otherwise we have no real questions on why something works or something doesn't. Heck I aimed level of the dot left of the dot for a right to left wind today and tried a windage adjustment on the scope that was not workable and agged 2115 ARA. Now, when you see these 2250 + aggs, don't you have questions? I ask this, what barrel are you using and what lot of Eley Match? I see important stuff in the match results, especially when I compete!
