Just getting back into reloading and need some advise on tumbling 6PPC brass. I have both vibratory and rotating tumblers and don't care which I use to get the best results. The problem I'm having is the size of the media. Crushed walnut clumps in the cases and primer pockets. It's a royal pain to get out of the case. I don't get as good a result with corn cobs as I do with walnuts but am willing to try it again.

I am aware that stainless pins and liquid cleaners can be used in the Thumler drum, but it's a bit messy for me. Ultrasonic cleaners are outside my budget, so what do you suggest?

Also, what additives can I use without adverse results?

Thanks,

Bruce

Well, I guess the first question would be "why would you tumble 6PPC Brass". I can honestly say I do not know one Benchrest Shooter who does. Mostly due to the fact that you spend hours getting the stuff perfect, and tumbling can, and does, produce dinged up necks and the such. Heck, if I drop a case and just put a smallding on the neck, I will toss it.

Is this some old non neck turned Sako, or something similiar.

Sorry, we just don't get many Tumbling Questions on Benchrest.com.........jackie

It's been sitting in a loading block with a piece of tape over it for 8 years. I just want to get it back to the point where I can load it and see if it goes bang. Unlikely I will ever shoot in a match...but this forum has the best combined knowledge of those out there so just looking for a solution. This is neck-turned older brass that started out as .220 Russian.

Tumbling 6 PPC Brass
This is how I do my practice 6ppc brass---I do not use this procedure on match brass or brass that is to be used in a match
1. Load brass in loading block
2. Spray brass on 4 sides with Horonady 1 Shot sizing spray
3. Run brass through sizing die
4. Clean primer pocket and install new primers
5. Place in vibratory tumbler with 2/3 corn cob media and 1/3 walnut media
I let tumbler/vibrator run about 1-2 hours to get the case clean and Horonady sizing spray off
6. clean the media from the cases by your preferred methed-Personally I use a seperator rotated about 20 revolutions

The cases will be better than new in appearance--
Just another way

Thanks to all!
Got the grunge off, will see where it goes from there.

Tumble your brass before you decap. When you push the spent primer out any leftover walnut or corncob dust will be pushed out with the primer..

Ultrasonic is cheap.
I bought one on ebay that is identical to what Hornady is now selling for 20.00
