question to nationals winners

Throw out the trigger pull scale and get a dynometer .1 oz. resolution and when trigger breaks needle stays where it broke at..then get back with readings..

I picked up a Scherr Tumico dynamometer in 0 to 5.5 ounce range and checked all my Jewell triggers and a Bix N Andy trigger. The adjustment of the Jewell's were all over the place, but after minor adjustments on all of them, about five triggers, I had them consistently breaking at 1.5 ounces. The Bix N Andy was breaking at 1 oz and I left it there. Years ago I had seen Arnold Jewell adjusting triggers using one of these to see where the trigger was breaking. I didn't know what he was using and didn't think to ask. Certainly worth having if you can pick one up at a reasonable price.

Gee Mike all you had to do was ask :D
That's the way it always is, never thought to ask what the gadget was Arnold was using. It has just been 20 years ago when I saw him using it. At that time, I didn't need one. And now probably don't need one after retiring from rifle building. But, it is nice that all the triggers are breaking on the same thing. Sure better than hanging a bag with enough bullets on it to weigh 2 ounces. That gets it close, but not the same as with the gauge.

Over the last 20+ years I have thought that the results were due to 50% shooter ability and 50% equipment. I feel the quality of so many top shooters is so good that the quality of their equipment, load and tune plays a greater role then before. I can't comment on different triggers as all of mine and my spares are Jewell's. Tim

It made an impression on me when Jackie Schmidt said a while back that 75% of guns on the line were not in tune. Heck, statistics would say that some portion of the tuned guns were in tune by accident. With the unreal scores this year, could be more are figuring it out.
