Well it,s a nice day in Indiana sun is out very little wind think I will shoot my Rifle some .
I bought a used Leupold 36-X last week and it looks good . All the adjustments work fine BUT .

I,m have trouble seeing through the eye piece can.t get my eye lined up just right ? I see 60/80 % of the target or nothing . I have a 24-X Leupold and it just came back from Leupold this week .
It is fine clear and crisp . Should I send the 36 to Leupold or am I missing an adjustment .

sounds like eye relief to me..and the ability to keep the eye/head inline with the scope.
take it off the rifle and see what you see....

What difference would taking it off the rifle make ? The 24 X Leupold is fine but some thing is wrong with this scope . I did take it off and put the 24-X on .

KEYBEAR

OK how close is just right ? 1/2 inch--1 inch or what ?
That is the dumbest thing I ever heard . You really don,t think I moved it some ?

its quite simple..it would allow you to keep it inline with your eye...no stock to force your head at an odd angle.
it requires both correct eye relief and inline with the tube of the scope...what you describe is consistant with improper eye relief..unless the scope is tilted from your line of sight. is the 60-80% vision circular of oval ??

Parallax Ajustment

Could be Parallax adjustment. If you've already adjusted the parallax, I can't think of any other user adjustment that would be necessary to fix your problem. Parallax adjustment is described in the user manual, if one came with the scope.

I did,t get a manual of any kind but the 36 is close to the BR 24 and I have had one for 25 years .
The parallax is fine and eye relief what can I say I,v been all over the stock . The weather was very bad when I got the scope cold and a lot of wind . The only time I did site the scope before I installed it was in doors . Today after I remove the scope I could not get a good picture out of it . I called Leupold the AM and the tec said send it in ??
he thought it was a problem with the scope and it should have about the same eye relief as with the BR24 .

I should also say This is not a new to me stock . I have shot this stock before with little to no problem. I sent my BR-24 in to leupold last month and it got a lot of new parts it is very nice now . I really think it,s the glass it,s just not right . The scope will be in the mail in the morning and we will see ??

Thanks for the help . KEYBEAR

On a properly positioned high power scope as you back away from the eyepiece you get dark border all around the bright center. If you move to left or right or any position off center the scope view goes black. This is trickier on a 36x than on a 24x.

Shot the same Rifle with the BR-24-X on it .
Could not ask for better . Clear sharp and in focus .
The 36-X went back to Leupold today ?

Yes I called first . I will let you know how it works then I get it back .

dick and key,
since i did not know what rifle he had the scope on, and the fact that 36's are picky about eye relief and head posiition, and he was having issues, it is much simpler to look thru a tuff scope off the gun. much easier to align and get the eye relief .
he was having issues why not eliminate head position on the stock as one issue....

Good move, Key. Or is it Mr. Bear?
Leupold is great when it comes to customer service, as far as I'm concerned.
Unlike others, I have never had a problem with the people at Leupold. As Dick Grosbier stated, the 36X takes a little getting used to. I didn't understand that "Take it off the rifle bit" either. If you can't get behind the scope while it's on the rifle what would you do when you get it back. Again, good move sending it to Leupold. Did you talk to someone there first? That would also be a good move.

Steve We go through life saying this friend or that friend but really they are just people we know or work with .
Most people are lucky to have one real friend in a life time .

I don,t care or worry about making friends on a web site .

A little up date .
I got a call from Leupold last night and the news was not good . The young lady said your Leupold 36X is no good .
I ask for an expiration and was told the parts inside were frozen and not fixable . They (Leupold) will replace it with a new Scope at no cost to me unless I upgrade .

The offer is for a new Leupold F-3 30X at no cost . Anyone use one of them and how do you like it . Or should I pay some to upgrade to ?????????????

Keybear, with all due respect to Leupold, that is the biggest line of bull I have ever heard.
I have had multitudes of 36x Leupolds apart. The scope is simply an accumilation of parts. One part can be bad, and you can simply replace that part.
There is NOTHING in that scope that cannot be fixed. If the tube is bent, they put a new tube on it. If the erector tube lenses are loose, you replace the erector tube. If the turrets are stripped you replace them. If the Objective lens assy is in some way bad, they disassemble it and replace the faulty parts. If the ocular lens assy is bad, you replace it. If the Reticle is broke, you replace it.

Now, if someone went and squirted some type of epoxy or silocon in there in an attempt to freeze the parts, that is a different story. But from what you said, it is a regular unaltered 36x.

The way I see it, there is no such thing as a bad Leupold that has not been altered in some way. Now, they might not want to put forth the effort to fix it, but that is their problem, not yours. It's their warranty they have to honor.

Leupold has a lifetime warranty. You have a very valuable 36x Benchrest Scope. It is Leupold's responsibility to fix it. DO NOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING OF LESS VALUE OR THAT DOES NOT MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS........jackie

jackie Thank You for that Info .

I have never used/seen a F3 30X and I see on some web sites it is a one inch tube and cost run around $700.00 .
I can,t believe it,s not a useable scope . The only other scope would be the 35X and it,s a 30 mm tube .

They did honor their warranty, they offered a replacement scope , one that costs way more than the original scope in all likelihood.
If it is one of the very original 36x scopes with no locking ring on the objective lens they have been out of parts for years. Plus just about any company out there quits supporting older models at some point in time at least Leupold is offering credit towards a new scope. I seem to recall US companies are required to carry appearance parts for 2 years and functional parts for 7 years after a consumer item is discontinued. I think Leupold goes way beyond that. As to the " Lifetime Warranty" I am not a defender of Leupold I sold most of mine for various reasons but still I know they take support of their warranty much more seriously than a long list of people I can think of.

Dick I really don,t know . I,m going to call Leupold this PM and make a decision as to paying for an upgrade or not . I,m not at all unhappy with Leupold in fact I,m very pleased with them .

I only need some input as to the scope being offered to me as a replacement . I have zero experience with the scope (F3 30X) and would very much like input .

The 36X I sent to Leupold was to replace my 24X on one Rifle and I would like a little bigger scope to try .
