Process for chambering large magnum chambers

I read a book written by John Hinnent several years before I bought my first machine. He made a comment about roughing so deep that the finish reamer pilot couldn't reach the bore. He wrote " its this kind of oversight that causes some men to take up strong drink".
I dont mind a strong drink now and then but I'd rather do it because I want to rather than because I jacked up a chamber job.
I take the time to measure the distance from the shoulder to the leading end of the pilot and drill a little less than that, bore, then ream enough to support the reamer on reentry after drilling some more.
Long chambers take a while for me even with a flushing system.
