Im more confused than when I started looking at this subject. Simple question is there a std. flash hole size for the PPC cases, Im shooting both the 6 & 22. What is the most common size flashhole??????

OK OK I did do a search But nothing definitive, May be what I should have asked is HEY What are you guys using, 50 views & 0 opinions????????

If you would watch Jack Neary's tuning seminar that has a youtube link in the Comp. Forum. His suggestion is to do nothing to them. I have not done anything to mine now for a year. And I have had some success this year. Hope this will help. Tony

I've never heard of anyone doing a formal survey on the subject.

However, the original designers of the 6PPC liked a .062" flash hole and because of that I would guess that that is what most of us are using today. :)

THanks Gentlemen, Im kinda new to benchrest reloading & dont want to mess up good brass. I bought my 6ppc stuff from Brunos already prepped. But decibed to prep my own 22 from 220 russian. I was told the decapping pin would be too large to go into the orig. flashhole, I have not checked that yet, considering I would have to resize them I wanted some input. I got several opinions which caused this post. As stated I did do a search but got no firm answer. IF my decapping pin works I will naturally start w/out resizing.

Polish the pin down till it fits. Leave the flash holes alone. Changing the flash holes to fit the pin would be letting the tail wag the dog.

You can purchase small pins from Redding. They will probably send you some for nothing.

This has been discussed many times in the past. True, the originol 6PPC case called for a 1/16 inch flashhole. But Lapua actually drills them with a 1.5 mm drill, (.059), hence the reason that a 1/16 drill witll usually remove a small amount of metal.

That being said, I have had lot numbers of 220 Russian Cases where the 1/16 drill did not remove anything, and other lots where they were pretty small, resulting in the drill cutting quite a bit out. I have no explanation for this. I have been using the same little .062 drill for years.

I do not run the drill in to make them bigger, just to get them all the same size, and they do vary, even cases coming out of the same box. This could be due to Lapua starting a run with a drill, (or drills), and as they get dull, they cut a tad smaller, but they do not change them untill some problem occurs. .........jackie

Do you use some type of guide or do you just put the bit in a drill and run it up in the flash hole?
I've used the Sinclair flash hole tool enough to not wanna do it again, I'm ready to quit all together or find a better way.

Sinclair makes a flash hole reamer.
But, I am with Jack.
Saw my groups shrink a little, this year.
Leave the flash hole. It's made that way for a reason.
Brush inside the necks.
Use primer pocket uniformer from Sinclair.
And Win. small rifle primers.
And of course. N-133.

There have been numerous thread.
If you are shooting 6 & 22 ppc the vast majority use Laupa brass.
That brass is usually so consistent that nothing is necessary.
