Sorry if this has been asked previously,could someone give me an idea as to how high I would need to be impacting @ 100 from a 100 zero to be close @ 600yards,catridge is a 6ppc using 70gn MK's @ 3360fps.

Regards Chris.

Need a little more info....

Need to know a few more things but this is what I get using 500' above see level, 50% humidity, and at 80 deg F. Hope that is close enough.

100=0 MOA 0
200= -2.4" " 1.1
300= -9.8" " 3.1
400= -23.6" " 5.6
500= -45.9" " 8.8
600= -79.4" " 12.6

Hope this helps.

Depending on scope height you will need to be close to 13" high at 100 yards to be on at 600. If you are zeroed at 100 yards you will need to come up about 12 1/2 minutes to be on at 600.

Chisholm is spot on...

If I have a zero dead on at 100 yards I have to come up around +/- 44 clicks on a 1/4 min click scope. Please keep in mind that this is in Texas at 99 degree heat around 1000 ft elevation. Thanks...the colonel.

Cheechako who posts on here from time to time shot a 6ppc at the 600 yard nationals last April.
He shot a nice 1.682 inch group but I think he was using a 80 or 85 grain bullet.Maybe he will post.

G'day Lynn,

Mate I would like to hear about that,for sure.My problem is that near all my rifles-barrel's are 1:14 twist:(:(.........trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear:)..or more to the point..have a go without spending a bunch:D.

Regards Chris.

CHRIS. T,

Just DO IT! :) If the match day turns out to be fairly calm you'll be right in there...... and if it's windy you'll just have to shoot better! But either way you'll have fun. You're right about the 14" twisters being limited, but at least they're "limited" to use with the most accurate bullets on the planet..... and on a fairly calm day they'll group a long way out.

Off the subject a little but I have shot 75 vmax out of my 6ppc at 1000 yards on a very calm day and was able to hit a MGM mini popper(4 inches wide) with amazing success!

It is I, Cheechako.

Yes the 6PPC will shoot at 600 yards. I have a 12 twist 28" Kreiger. I shoot the 71 grain Berger BT at 3385 fps. I understand that the 71 grain Berger is no longer made so I will have to look for another bullet.

I see no reason why a 70 to 75 grain bullet would not shoot in a 14 twist.

Alinwa knows whereof he speaks. If the conditions are good it will equal or beat any cartridge on the line. If the conditions are snotty you have to shoot better (or do what I do - get your other rifle out of the truck).:rolleyes:

Individual groups sizes don't mean much because they are a combination of luck and conditions. Aggs are another thing altogether. I shot the PPC at 600 yards at the first ever Nationals. As I remember, I won the LG Agg and had the HG small group. Best of all, though, I scared the crap out of all the other guys who said it couldn't be done.:p

Didn't you set the heavygun small group record in 2004 at the NBRSA Nationals?

Thank's Al and Ray,
Ray I might just try some 75 grain projectiles and see how they go,didn't try them are I was lead to believe stability would be a problem out of a 14 twist,having said that the 70gn matchkings group well at 200.
As i indicated earlier I would like to try the middle distance first as the outlay is minimal.
If I think it's worth my while I may get a fast twist barrel for my remington at a later date..................................................................Ok here is another question,I have a Stiller drop port with a PPC dedicated bolt face,I also have an accurised Rem700 with a .473 bolt face currently with a PPC barrel and 6BR both in 14twist,now I dont want to open the bolt face up on the Stiller...............................should I get the barrel for the PPC action or build on the Rem...........know which I would rather use bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbut I cant use anything with a bigger case rim than a PPC in the stiller??????????

Regards Chris.

Yep and it was a world record at that. It lasted about a month. I think it was broken 2 or 3 times before I even got my certificate.:mad:

I've set many other records but none of them were at registered matches and none were witnessed.;):cool:

Dog's Elvis,

Mate have thought of that option.........................reckon it would be around $800-$900Aus to go that way:eek:.

Regards Chris.

You can turn the rims down on a BR case to fit in a drop port, but I don't know if the nose of the drop-port bolt would hit the case body, which of course, you can't turn down. And I believe the "drop hole" is larger for the drop port BR action.

I think a faster twist barrel & sticking with the PPC will work fine. Both Ray and Roger Haney had a thread on the PPC for 600 yards a while back, and Roger had a fast twist barrel & was getting close to 3,000 with a 105 Berger (or something in that weight range). Roger isn't afraid to tip the powder jug, of course. Believe he was using 748, but you could check the archives.

I see in that old thread were you said the PPC will outshoot the BR at 600 yards.That thread looks to be about 4 years old now and I was wondering how you would like your crow prepared?
